Laurie Kathleen Thank you attending: Crystal Burchnell Bobbie Levine and others who returned a second and third time;) Thank you all!!
We covered many different topics sharing fears about being alone, one moving out of state requiring additional help caregiving for spouse with Parkinson's, and two women connecting talking about caregiving and making healthcare decisions for a declining spouse.
The POLST form was brought up again this cafe, which is great. I would like to do a class in the near future to review the form closely, line by line, and answer questions along the way--stay tuned:)
Next Death Cafe will be 10/12/19. Let's ...

Sorry for the late review.
Our August cafe was interesting as always with a small group.
Our conversation veered towards animals and our love for them. Sometimes people grieve their animals more than their relatives. We looked at that and why that would be the case.
As we tried to answer this question again it was initiated with our first death experience as a child where the children were not allowed at the funeral, and the grown ups didn't address the issue of death with the young children in the family.
I am grateful for the time we shared together and look forward to another cafe 9 ...

We will begin by announcing one of our members was just diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. I dedicate the title of this month's Death Cafe - Visalia to him.
Our conversations were lively today with enough people to even have few side bars. We met in the round, and if we continue to have this amount--or more--I would like to break into small groups of 3 or 4 for part of our session together to make sure everyone is heard and able to share.
We had a special guest from Turlock that travelled just for us today;) Gerry Grossman is the Program Manager for Advanced Care Planning for ...

This was a beautiful Hygge group with us two veteran cafers, and two other women who find themselves alone after the death of their spouses one by cancer and the other by cardiac arrest.
Our newcomer had been holding onto our newspaper article in her purse anticipating the event.
Sharing our experiences with the death stories of our loved ones was beautifully shared in this small group with everyone being heard and appreciated.
One of the take aways from this group is we will talk about our loss for as long as we need to with no judgement or guilt.
Our next meeting will be held July 13th ...

Crystal and I were very pleased to have the Visalia Times Delta Newspaper focus our efforts in their Inspire Section informing the community about our upcoming Death Cafe alongside another article explaining WHAT a Death Cafe is and how it got started--very helpful.
We had SIX new people at this week's cafe, and others who have expressed interest. Our discussion was lively, informative, and at times, tender. I asked permission from one of the ladies to share the following story:
Great group of women and men with meaningful and interesting discussion about topics surrounding End-of-Life (EOL). I want to share just one story I thought was touching ...

Good Grief!! I've always liked Charlie Brown;)
Lately the topic of grief has been surfacing and getting my direct attention. Death Cafes are the perfect place to process grief exploring one's thoughts and feelings with others in a small group.
For those who are new to Death Cafes, the goal is to provide space not only for our bodies, but our spirits, where topics like grief can be explored with others. Sharing our grief is healthy and normal with the loss of loved ones--pets included.
Meetings will be held monthly at The Center for Spiritual Living around the corner from Brown's Shoes in beautiful downtown ...

Our small group gathered around one table enjoying the peach tea, 5 layer chocolate brownies, and fresh strawberries. The bakery gave permission to use their card for our picture here, and said in the future, they could make skull cookies or a decadente rich chocolate cake!
Someone brought a book with CDs to share, "Graceful Passages, A Companion for Living and Dying" We will pass it around for the group to enjoy.
Our conversations varied, but I think the sharing our first experiences with death and how it changed our lives was interesting. Our early losses in childhood left lasting effects on all of us and it was ...
