A lovely Death Cafe with nine people attending, we had an upbeat conversation about how medics approach the dying and their relatives, and talked about funerals in different cultures.

Death Cafe write up: Death Cafe Wien

Death Cafe write up: Colliers Wood Death Cafe - Aug 2018

Posted by Cecilia H on Aug. 14, 2018, 7:19 a.m.

There were six of us round the table at this, the second meeting of the Colliers Wood Death Cafe.  Some of us had been to a Death Cafe before, and as we introduced ourselves themes around looking death in the face, in order to live more fully and perhaps more meaningfully, quickly began to emerge.

Our discussion began with thoughts about putting our affairs in order - both at a practical, or logistical level, and emotionally, and different people shared where they felt they were at with the housekeeping aspects of recognising our inherent finitude.

The nature of someone's death was raised as a differentiating factor in terms ...

Death Cafe write up: Kendal Death Cafe

Posted by Mitzi on Aug. 8, 2018, 3:58 p.m.

This is the first time I attended the Kendal (Cumbria, England) Death Café and very glad I did. It was well organized by Susie and Jane who were both extremely welcoming. The venue (Warehouse Cafe at the Brewery Art Centre) was well suited to the gathering in that the seating was naturally subdivided to enable small groups to chat comfortably and intimately. I found the whole experience very enlightening and the conversation was easy, varied and informative. I had intended to leave early to head to another engagement but found the time slipped by so easily that I stayed until the end and missed my later meeting! All ...

Practitioners question: Einstein’s Afterlife Realm

Posted by Quack on Aug. 7, 2018, 11:38 a.m.

Let's say Einstein is about to die, but before he does a 'being', working behind the scenes, transfers Einstein's consciousness to a robot shell which Einstein is quickly able to control. Einstein then makes his way towards a light where he finds a room. There, Einstein realises that ...

A group of American, Canadian, and UK ex-pats and “snowbirds” recently gathered for the first Death Café Ajijic, Mexico. There were 18 persons present at Café El Grano including an anesthesiologist, a hospice nurse, a hospice social worker, a psychiatrist, teachers, and others. There were two facilitators who work with end-of-life planning and transitions.

If the term Death Café (excuse the brash wording, I prefer Sacred Conversation or The Conversation) is new to you, you may hear it more and more.  Death Cafes or Café Mortels began with Swiss sociologist Bernard Crettaz who held over 100 such meetings in his native country until recently. In 2011, Jon Underwood ...

Death Cafe write up: Kapiti Death Cafe

With around 10 daring death discussers, we were able to really get into sharing deeply our thoughts and wonderings about the process and aspects of death in our society and how we can be more aware of choices. It was a fantastic two hours. Looking forward to building more and deepening our community

The 1st community gathering of Death Cafe of Northeast Florida was held on 08/01/18, hosted by The Sacred Servant and facilitated by Nada Frazier.  30 diverse and curious people attended, including folks that came from Gainesville, FL and Hendersonville, NC.  The group enjoyed a Dia' De Los Muertos decorated cake and other refreshments. I held a successful first session last week, success being measured by people attending, a lively discussion and positive feedback!

Death Cafe write up: Chelmsford Death Cafe

I facilitated my first Death Café two days ago,  Several people couldn’t easily find the event, in future I will provide a map and really good directions to the venue!

Once we were (eventually 15minutes after the advertised start time) all sitting with drinks and cakes I gave my prepared introduction to Death Café with a little history of the momvement and an outline of what it is, isn’t some ‘ground rules’ and my ‘plan’ for the session.

I began by introducing myself and saying a bit about why I want to hold Death Cafes, then invited the group to introduce themselves and say what brought ...

Death Cafe write up: In downtown Lancaster | A Death Cafe at the Historic Fred F. Groff Event Center

Posted by BLLLINK on July 26, 2018, 9:08 a.m.

We had a really nice time at last night's Death Cafe. 16+ people came together around two tables to talk about life and death ... and enjoy the moment ... with delicious cakes and cookies.

A few of the evening's participants have come to previous Death Cafes, but for most, it was the first time. We had a guest who lives in Mazatlén, Mexico.

The two hours just breezed by and were filled with the best topics.
