The 1st community gathering of Death Cafe of Northeast Florida was held on 08/01/18, hosted by The Sacred Servant and facilitated by Nada Frazier. 30 diverse and curious people attended, including folks that came from Gainesville, FL and Hendersonville, NC. The group enjoyed a Dia' De Los Muertos decorated cake and other refreshments. Discussions varied, including history and intent of Death Cafes, what drew the attendees to choose to attend, personal experiences with death, discussions with loved ones regarding death, and how exploring death leads to more fully living our lives. Comments included how important it is for communities to gather to discuss death, with many voicing their intent to continue to attend and encourage others to attend future gatherings. The group plans to continue to gather the 1st Wednesday of each month, with the next meeting being scheduled on Wednesday, September 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Unity of Jacksonville Beach.
