This meeting was the first since the death of my father and I was a bit apprehensive that I would find it rather overwhelming.  Not a bit of it.  I was able to talk freely about my feelings and reminisce with my group about the time I attended the Kendal Death Cafe with my father.  Whilst the meeting was scheduled to start at 6 pm, people kept arriving and there were more than 20 of us by the end. This was my 3rd visit to the Death Cafe in Kendal but this time with the added pleasure of being accompanied by my 85 year old father and my eldest sister and her husband who happened to be staying with us for the week.

Two groups of about 8 people each were formed and I was in one with my father whilst my sister and her husband were in the other. This was our deliberate choice to maximise our discussions as we already discuss the subjects of death and dying amongst ourselves - though not that frequently!

This was my second Death Cafe Meeting in Kendal and once again, a really interesting meeting.  It was nice to catch up with some familiar faces and to meet new people as well.

I was amazed how different the topics were from the previous meeting with quite a lot of mention of the recent commemorations for WWI.

Also interesting was being included in a small research group specifically involved with work for a PhD student researching the Death Cafe Movement.

Thanks once again to Susie and Jane for organising and to the Brewery Arts Centre for the use of their Warehouse Cafe. Looking forward to the next one ...



Death Cafe write up: Kendal Death Cafe

This is the first time I attended the Kendal (Cumbria, England) Death Café and very glad I did. It was well organized by Susie and Jane who were both extremely welcoming. The venue (Warehouse Cafe at the Brewery Art Centre) was well suited to the gathering in that the seating was naturally subdivided to enable small groups to chat comfortably and intimately. I found the whole experience very enlightening and the conversation was easy, varied and informative. I had intended to leave early to head to another engagement but found the time slipped by so easily that I stayed until the end and missed my later meeting! All ...
