The summer Death Cafe had a slightly less busier turnout than others due to regular attendees being on holiday or unwell. However we still had a great turnout of 9 people, and I was very pleased with the conversation that flowed naturally. Whereas previous events have been very cheery and funny in places, this event was more serious but still light hearted. We largely discussed supporting people through their own death, or bereavement and also long term illnesses alongside euthanasia. This came from the experiences of the group in knowing people who had been through such things. I was pleased that we had mostly newcomers with some returning ...

There were five of us at this death cafe held at the Urbana Free Library in Urbana, IL.
Two local archaelolgists from the U of I came as well as a woman who was attending her third cafe in a few days. She had gone to one in Indy and another location in Indiana and then came to this one on her way to Wisconsin.
She shared her story about cremation remains after hearing one of the participants shared his own similar story. We talked about cancer and loss.
Everyone contributed to the conversation and we had a good time.
Our third death cafe was well attended with lots of new people along with a few returnees. We had lots of interesting conversations.

We held this death cafe at a cafe that had a separate room, which was great except the arrival of cafe staff with orders was a continous interruption. 13 people came along which is the most we have had at a cafe. The larger number created an energy where the conversations were deep, connected honest and emotional. The feed back reflected that apart from the interruptions from cafe staff most people got alot value from attending and want them to be held more frequently. To leave a death cafe with a feeling of connection was lovely.

A lovely Death Cafe with nine people attending, we had an upbeat conversation about how medics approach the dying and their relatives, and talked about funerals in different cultures.

This is the first time I attended the Kendal (Cumbria, England) Death Café and very glad I did. It was well organized by Susie and Jane who were both extremely welcoming. The venue (Warehouse Cafe at the Brewery Art Centre) was well suited to the gathering in that the seating was naturally subdivided to enable small groups to chat comfortably and intimately. I found the whole experience very enlightening and the conversation was easy, varied and informative. I had intended to leave early to head to another engagement but found the time slipped by so easily that I stayed until the end and missed my later meeting! All ...

A group of American, Canadian, and UK ex-pats and “snowbirds” recently gathered for the first Death Café Ajijic, Mexico. There were 18 persons present at Café El Grano including an anesthesiologist, a hospice nurse, a hospice social worker, a psychiatrist, teachers, and others. There were two facilitators who work with end-of-life planning and transitions.
If the term Death Café (excuse the brash wording, I prefer Sacred Conversation or The Conversation) is new to you, you may hear it more and more. Death Cafes or Café Mortels began with Swiss sociologist Bernard Crettaz who held over 100 such meetings in his native country until recently. In 2011, Jon Underwood ...

With around 10 daring death discussers, we were able to really get into sharing deeply our thoughts and wonderings about the process and aspects of death in our society and how we can be more aware of choices. It was a fantastic two hours. Looking forward to building more and deepening our community

Death comes to us all, including Death Cafe moderators. The June meeting was cancelled due to a death in my family.
The 1st community gathering of Death Cafe of Northeast Florida was held on 08/01/18, hosted by The Sacred Servant and facilitated by Nada Frazier. 30 diverse and curious people attended, including folks that came from Gainesville, FL and Hendersonville, NC. The group enjoyed a Dia' De Los Muertos decorated cake and other refreshments. Discussions varied, including history and intent of Death Cafes, what drew the attendees to choose to attend, personal experiences with death, discussions with loved ones regarding death, and how exploring death leads to more fully living our lives. Comments included how important it is for communities to gather to discuss death, with many ...
