Our 3rd Death Cafe was another wonderful evening of great conversations. We had folks join us from here at home (Williams Lake, BC) and from Bulgaria, Australia, Toronto and North Carolina in the US.
We are continuing with our Virtual Death Cafes as there does seem to be a growing interest. We'd like to remind folks to TEST the Zoom app before the Cafe event to ensure everything is working on your end. :) Email us if you have any questions. Nicola info@ccdcnetwork.com THANK YOU

We were a small meeting of 5, with several people who had planned to come along unable to at the last minute. Small numbers notwithstanding, we nonetheless enjoyed a selection of Bakewell Cake, Banana and Chocolate Chip Loaf, and a Vanilla and Chocolate Marble Cake!
Themes to emerge from the group’s discussion:
The recent and tragic death of Caroline Flack. The relationship between shame and suicide. The pressure and isolation of living in the public eye. Suicide as a final resort for those who feel they have no one to turn to, and nowhere else to go. Perception as reality. The privileges of a life more ordinary ...
10 of us met for the first meeting of the Colliers Wood Death Café to take place in 2020. We enjoyed 3 varieties of cake, with the Victoria Sponge once again proving to be a hit!
The darkness of January was an opening theme, with people reflecting on their relationship to this time of year, and to winter.
Themes to emerge from our discussion:
The ideas purported by the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement which calls for people to abstain from reproduction to cause the gradual voluntary extinction of humankind in order to prevent environmental degradation.
The relationship between faith, anguish and pain. The phenomenon on ‘total pain’ recognised ...

For February’s Death Café Iowa we met at Palmers Deli & Market on Ingersoll. Buffy Peters and Becca Suvalsky (members of the Young Bereavement Professionals Group) facilitated the group. We had 6 people in attendance, 1 man and 5 women, and participants ranged in ages and professions. Several interesting topics were brought forward for discussion during this month’s death café. Topics included obituaries, the podcast “Adventures of Memento Mori”, and how our belief systems determine how we respond to death. Each group member shared openly and we had a great conversation. We look forward to more interesting and insightful conversations next month.

As usual this was a small gathering but a very good one with some great discussions. An attendee had printed out the recent article covering 'composting' of people plus we covered religion in the grieving process among other topics.
A group of diverse ages came together during the season of spirits and souls to talk about death at this first Death Café held at the Market Avenue Wine Bar in Ohio City. The conversation included discussions about life’s purpose to being aware of death’s certainty – allowing each of us to view our lives through the lens of gratitude and finite time. The makeup of the diverse age group served as the catalyst for a deeper discussion with many sharing personal memories of death and the passing of loved ones.
Time went by too quickly and the group asked one closing question – “When are we doing ...

The event took place on Feb.17th: our new venue has proved good, though we were just about full to capacity with 20 guests. Janine, Toby and Francis helped facilitate and the feedback was very positive. The only thing that was rated less than OK was the publicity: anybody with art skills, good ideas or a bit of time would be welcome to help us with this!
One factor that seems to arise is that people may be expecting the tea and cakes to be free as well as the event. Unfortunately, we cannot stretch to this. The venue charges us and we've now received a grant ...

It was a wonderful evening of cheery death chats with ten regular attendees. It would be great for some new people to attend in future so I would hate to discourage anyone from coming along but it was a really nice evening. We covered topics such as communication and it's importance around death, and whether loved ones can appear to return to people in their final days.

There were five of us talking about death today. One of our regulars, an archaeologist, talked about what sort of work she does and where and we touched on various other topics. I reiterated, in general, the standards for holding death cafes in light of recent challenges to them.

Our intent is to hold monthly space for folks to come enjoy some conversation about death over tea and cake.
It is never our intention to sway the minds of anyone to beleive certain ways. Death is an expereince that is as unique to each individul as the life they've lived. We honor that, and dare we say revere it...

Happy New Year from Ibiza Death Cafe! Thanks to all that attended the January event at Bistro Can Pa. We were also joined by a beautiful flower covered hearse and team from Flower Power Funerals to celebrate the start of 2020!
This was my first time hosting and no one showed up! It was held in a town/area of lots of retirees. It was well advertised, but there I was with cookies. I didn't despair, actually thought it funny. Perhaps I'll try again one day. The others I've hosted in the area have been wonderful!

Well that was great! We weren't sure that a Virtual Death Cafe would fly, but fly it did. Thanks so much to everyone who showed up for our first Virtual Death Cafe. I’m sure we could have talked into the wee hours of the morning. We will do it again soon.
