Press: Death Cafe poster too 'dark and gloomy' for library notice board
Posted by Janwil on Jan. 6, 2016, 7:39 a.m.
The Ham and Hi gave a balanced view, although they described the cafe as a 'bereavement group'; it is ridiculous that, after this has run without problems for nearly 2 years, library management have censored our poster.
I am looking for an alternative venue so hopefully the death cafe will ...

A smaller group gathered a week before Christmas to talk about death but the conversation was still very lively. One participant commented, "What an opportunity to get down to the important parts of life" and another added, "It broadened my sense of possibilities." There was a stimulating mixture of new and returning participants. As always, there were delicious refreshments available.
To join us on the third Thursday of a coming month, just email deathcafe.grantspass@gmail.com telling who would like to attend and we will reserve you a place and send you further information. If you have questions, call Trish at (541) 862-2377.

New Blog post: A Spiritual Legacy for 2016
Posted by Kevin Haselhorst on Dec. 31, 2015, 2:17 a.m.
This New Year is the appropriate time to make a resolution; the occasion to link advance care planning with a spiritual legacy. People all have deep-seated values and determinations of what they are willing to pay for, live for and die for, but few actually document these for caregivers or posterity. Beginning in 2016, Medicare will begin to reimburse physicians for end-of-life counseling. However, throwing taxpayer dollars at no-win situations is potentially invaluable or a ...

The Young Bereavement Professionals Group hosted another meaningful Death Café this week! It was great to see familiar faces, and welcome back some folks we hadn’t seen in a few months! Our participants are so great about inviting friends, co-workers, and civic/social club members, so we expect to see new faces over the next few months!
We started the evening with a discussion about Huggable Pet Urns, which was mentioned at the tail end of our evening last month. Someone had brought in a print out of some examples, which made for some great comments! Most of the people thought it was a very weird idea ...

Highcliffe Death Café had another booming afternoon meeting, the last of 2015. Eight all together, whereof four new members turned up. One gentleman had been travelling from midmorning by public transport from right the other end of Dorset. Among us was a couple, who have been interested in the topic of death for more than 30 years, partly through work related contacts and partly through the big wide gaping hole they have seen customer/patients are afraid of as they do not know how to approach this empty fearful place which for many death is. Among also an author of: A Guide to Natural Burial Paperback – 25 Jun ...

We met for the final Cafe of the year 2015 from 2-4 pm at 11805 North Pennsylvania Street in Carmel, IN; a new person came to visit and she is preparing to become a death doula. Much of the conversation that ensued was about that role, and then it launched us into talking more about death and holiday traditions, loss of loved ones, becoming the elder in the family of origin.
Next year, the Carmel Death Cafe will meet quarterly in the same location and same time - on Sundays, March 20,June 12,Sept 18 and Dec.11, 2016.

On 11th November 2015, in the traditional month of the dead, over 130 people attended Limerick’s first Death Café - an evening of tea, coffee, cake and discussion of mortality and end of life experiences. Organised by art collective Gothicise and funded by Limerick Grants Under The Arts, our event took place at Hook & Ladder (also known ironically as The Living Cafe in the Corbally section of Limerick City).
This night featured – among other events – a range of commemoration cards designed by artist Philip Desmond to celebrate life, conversation topics designed by thanatologist and researcher Jennifer Moran Stritch, and a special art workshop by visual artist Sinead ...
