Death Cafe Practitioners Page
Our Death Cafe today had 40 people even though we had 2 events this month to try and accommodate! I have found that smaller is better as far as intimacy. Question, what do I do as a facilitator to keep the ball rolling and growing but make sure everyone attending leaves fulfilled? Now a few participants are complaining that the conversation did not go their way! Do I add more time to the event, break into groups (space is small) be firmer with RSVP at a certain number???
Death Cafe October 5, 2014
On a sunny, breezy fall day in Virginia about twenty people came together at the Barns for the second Death Cafe. We sat at tables of five or six people who dialogued for an hour, then come together as a larger group to open the floor for discussion. Freshly brewed coffee, hot tea, and homemade scones fired up the conversation.
This time the dialogue carried with it a commonality among groups. Most feel ritual has value after someone dies, and some feel the sooner after death, the better. Should we suffer through physical pain or should we use medication even if it clouds ...
We had a terrific Lawrence Death Cafe at the Lawrence Public Library on Saturday, September 13th. Our meeting room holds 20 and we had 15 attending. After the normal history, guidelines the conversation opened into cultural ceremonies with feedback from Native American, Buddhist and others. The elvauation forms as always rate 5 stars. I walk away as leader marveling at the diversity of attendees and their willingness to share!

There are a number of things that we ask people offering Death Cafes not to do. These are in our guide but aren't nearly clear enough it seems. I will address this but in the meantime, here they are....
If you're offering a Death Cafe please don't:
• Start websites, blogs or twitter account with Death Café in the title.
[This is because it is confusing when people google us and get multiple Death Cafe sites.]
• Use the name 'Death Cafe' for things that aren't Death Cafes as set out in our guidance.
[Death Cafe refers to a specific model which is set out in ...
We are happy to have had our first Death Cafe here are Easton Mountain. We are a retreat center in upstate New York. We had 25 participants and were part of a deeply felt and wide-ranging discussion. We look forward to having the next one during our New Year's Retreat. Harry Faddis
Lawrence Death Cafe will host the 7th gathering today. Last month our attendance was close to 20 but this month it's 5. The article covering Lawrence Death Cafe boosted our attendance for July and this month we are at our all time lowest. My concern is how to get the word out to the public without paying for ad space in our local newspaper. We are already on the Death Cafe web site, in an email list going out to 300 to 500 people, on our own Facebook page, on my personal Facebook page and our own Lawrence Death Cafe email list of about 60. If attendance ...
Successful First Death Cafe in Bunbury WA

Wanted to share with everyone out there that the first Death Cafe in the Bunbury region, that's in the Southwest of Western Australia, drew a group of six enthusiastic participants. This region has a small population so this number is quite significant. The most interesting thing I noted as the facilitator was the diversity of the group: there was a range of ages, cultures, experience, etc and a 50/50 women to men. The feedback was very positive and I look forward to our next one in September. BTW, this site is very professional and helpful so thanks much to Jon.
If you landed a Death Cafe interview and you are nervous about talking to the media, send me a message through this website and I can help you prepare.
Over the past two years I have done quite a few media interviews on Death Cafe: newspaper, magazine, radio, television. I know what types of questions are asked. There are nuances to each media type as well. I was really nervous in the beginning, so I know what that stress can feel like.
All of the Death Cafe media has been positive so far, so don't worry!
I am looking for a new venue and considering asking the local funeral homes. Do funeral homes attract people to attend?
Hi everyone,
This is a post I have put off writing for some time.
Sadly there are people who are using the name Death Cafe without permission, and in certain cases with motives that I am personally not comfortable with.
Please note:
- Only Death Cafes listed on this site it have confirmed with us that they follow the Death Cafe guidelines and standards of behaviour. If a Death Cafe is not listed here they haven't made that committment.
- There is no other website for Death Cafe apart from this one. If you find a website apart from this with the words 'deathcafe' in the web address or ...
I'm attending my first Death Cafe this Saturday and am organizing my first to facilitate in a few weeks. Any last words of wisdom for a first timer?
Good day, I am the organisator of a Death Colloquium in Quebec City, Canada. It will take place on November 16th. I would like to invite someone of Death Cafe's team to come explain what is Death Cafe and its story. This is a French community so it would be great that the speaker could speak French. Please answer at glemay333@gmail.com and I will send you more information about this event.

Bonjour, je suis l'organisatrice d'un colloque sur la mort. Il aura lieu dans la Ville de Québec le 16 novembre. Je voudrais inviter quelqu'un de l'équipe ...
Wondering if anyone has involved students in a Death Cafe. I was thinking of making this a part of my Death and Dying elective course in our University. Any thoughts?
Hello Everyone,
Just wondering, in your experience, what an optimal number of people should be in a Death Cafe? Our first one we had 30, and I know we will be having lots more in the second one. Is this too many? Should we limit the size to encourage a more intimate group? I'm thinking 25-30 max, but I'm just not sure. I don't want anyone not to have the experience of going to a Death Cafe either. Not sure what to do. Thanks. Sharon
I hope someone in Central Virginia is interested in hosting a death cafe. I'd love to attend, but don't feel comfortable being a host.
