The event took place on Feb.17th: our new venue has proved good, though we were just about full to capacity with 20 guests. Janine, Toby and Francis helped facilitate and the feedback was very positive. The only thing that was rated less than OK was the publicity: anybody with art skills, good ideas or a bit of time would be welcome to help us with this!
One factor that seems to arise is that people may be expecting the tea and cakes to be free as well as the event. Unfortunately, we cannot stretch to this. The venue charges us and we've now received a grant ...

It was a wonderful evening of cheery death chats with ten regular attendees. It would be great for some new people to attend in future so I would hate to discourage anyone from coming along but it was a really nice evening. We covered topics such as communication and it's importance around death, and whether loved ones can appear to return to people in their final days.

There were five of us talking about death today. One of our regulars, an archaeologist, talked about what sort of work she does and where and we touched on various other topics. I reiterated, in general, the standards for holding death cafes in light of recent challenges to them.

Our intent is to hold monthly space for folks to come enjoy some conversation about death over tea and cake.
It is never our intention to sway the minds of anyone to beleive certain ways. Death is an expereince that is as unique to each individul as the life they've lived. We honor that, and dare we say revere it...

Happy New Year from Ibiza Death Cafe! Thanks to all that attended the January event at Bistro Can Pa. We were also joined by a beautiful flower covered hearse and team from Flower Power Funerals to celebrate the start of 2020!
This was my first time hosting and no one showed up! It was held in a town/area of lots of retirees. It was well advertised, but there I was with cookies. I didn't despair, actually thought it funny. Perhaps I'll try again one day. The others I've hosted in the area have been wonderful!

Well that was great! We weren't sure that a Virtual Death Cafe would fly, but fly it did. Thanks so much to everyone who showed up for our first Virtual Death Cafe. I’m sure we could have talked into the wee hours of the morning. We will do it again soon.

"Death brings people together!" That was a quote from our last meeting! Despite the threat of a Winter issue, more people than ever gathered together to talk about death! What a great gathering we had! Look forward to the return of all!

For January’s Death Café Iowa we met at Palmers Deli & Market on Ingersoll. Buffy Peters and Becca Suvalsky (members of the Young Bereavement Professionals Group) facilitated the group. We had 11 people in attendance, 3 men and 8 women, and participants ranged in ages and professions. We had several new group members in attendance this month. Several interesting topics were brought forward for discussion during this month’s death café. Topics included the choice to stop eating at the end of life, the movie “Just Mercy”, and how members might feel if they knew they knew they were going to die in the next 10 minutes. We ...

It was a cosy afternoon for our first Death Cafe. Four of us sat around the dining table and discussed death and dying. Two people had lost parents when younger so the subject of needing to get our affairs in place came up amongst those with children. Time passed easily and the 2 hours flew by. Overall we all came away feeling like we’d shared something special.

The storm, terrible traffic and the time of year didn't stop people coming which is wonderful. Some very poignant topics at this event, and some very insightful discussions. Particularly found interesting the discussion around how selfish you can be if you know you are dying. I'm very pleased to have hosted this event.

Sadly only the organisers turned up to this event so we took the time to discuss a new approach. This includes possibly a new time and therefore a new location within the hospital to accomodate people better. Watch this space! March event is likely to remain as advertised however.
Hello Death Positive People!
Thank you to those who came to the first-of-the-year January 8th Death Café – Hillsborough (DC-H) which included ELEVEN NEW people adding to our Death Café’s conversations! Due to there no longer being a Hillsborough restaurant with the space to accommodate our group, this Death Café morphed into a community potluck that meets at a small house in a neighborhood. Thank you for the fantastic food this time too, folks! One of the feedback/evaluation forms received (thank you to those who filled one in!) suggested coordinating what food is brought. I do not have the additional time to do that, plus our ...
