Death Cafe Machynlleth Write up

Posted by tombo on June 4, 2016, 5:41 p.m.

With hot meals available before the 7.30pm start our first DEATH CAFE in March was a full house with 39 in attendance, and not just all oldies. With table based groups of 5 or 6 the cafe was soon abuzz with conversation.... and a suprising amount of laughter. Three moves to new tables during the course of the evening gave everyone a chance to meet new people and discuss more topics. The evenings evaluation forms confirmed a high level of satisfaction and appreciation of the event and hopes of another follow up DEATH CAFE. So now, on June 9th, we look forward to our second DEATH CAFE ...

Tucson Death Cafe Write up

Lovely Café this month! Conversation topics that arose were fascinating first-hand accounts of death-ways in the Philippines, stories of life and death in assisted living, grievances regarding what some consider are excessive medical directives to extend life at any cost and our important continuing conversations about how to equip ourselves for helping loved ones in their time of departure. Add in some iced hibiscus tea and blueberry cupcakes and what could be better! Bravo to our many first time attendees for braving Tucson’s own Fearless and Friendly Death Café. See you again for our Monsoon Celebration Café July 6, 2016.

Belleville, IL Death Cafe Write up

It was wonderful to have all the particpants - both old and new. We bascially celebrated our one year anniversary.

Many topics were discussed including green "death suits" and other ways to be buried/cremated and memorialized. Personal experiences were shared and discussed since even though it feels like you are alone in certain terminal situations, it is surprising to find out that others have experienced similar experiences.

The next meeting will take place on May 21st from 6pm - 8pm CST at the Miscellanea House Cafe. Hope to see everyone back and new faces as well.

There were quite a few deaths the past month and the group decided it was important to return to a discussion about pre-arrangments. Maggie brought in copies of the Illinois State Living Will - a simple one page document that informs health care professionals about wishes such as a DNR (do ...

The group discussed various topics related to death and dying, but the topic came around to considering different ethnic customs .

Several members shared family traditions including Celtic and French prayers.

Lively discussion, as always.  And, of course, lots of cake!

Tauranga Death Cafe Write up

Posted by Tauranga Death Cafe on May 30, 2016, 10:13 p.m.

Last Sunday we hosted our 2nd Death Cafe in a local establishment, Grindz. It was a great turnout for such a wet day, we had 15 including the hosts. Many heard about it through the Meet Up website, and some word of mouth and facebook.

There was a lively discussion around euthenasia, being prepared for the inevitable and stories were shared about loved ones.

We decided to wait a few weeks before hosting the next, look at venues that don't have steps to make it a little more accessable. One of the articipants was 96!

All up it was a great afternnon, and a very positive start ...

The Death Café was attended by 5 people, with the initial topic for discussion to be death online and digital legacy, as these were themes present in the work on show at the gallery space. The event was attended by a student who was doing her thesis on the ecology of death and the design projects that were in place to faciliate the most eco-friendly ways of dying possible. As a result of this, the conversation was orientated towards these themes which was very insightful and educational for all involved. What was interesting was that the conversation focused on these environmental topics in death, and then went back ...

Highcliffe Death Cafe Write up

Death Café hosted in May with a handful of people discussing issues related to death such as which type of funeral to have: cremation or burial adding sky burial and where to have our ashes or headstone! Do we prefer a family grave or woodland burial? We also came on to talking about funeral traditions in other countries, which always become very colourful and interesting.

Looking forward to meet everyone again in June.

Death Cafe in Prescott Write up

This Death Cafe was an intimate gathering of seven particpants plus the host/facilitator.  It was a very interesting session in which particpants shared their experiences, their feelings of vulnerability about the latter stages of life and concerns about their own deaths and related personal control issues.  This was the second Death Cafe hosted by this faciliator and more of these small groups are intended for the future.  A larger venue is offered monthly at The Peregrine Book Company in Prescott if a larger group setting is preferred.

" Nice to make new friends with similar but diverse, ideas about a common topic", was one of the responses to attending the second Death Cafe run by Kristine Rose and Barbara Greene this merry month of May. Particapants have a oppurtunity in the introduction round to share a positive, injoyable exsperince they have had in the past week and this is a great way to warm up and connect with each other around those often small enjoyable moment in our lives, that, well..quite honestly, makes life worth living. A group of 8 women and 2 men came to share in the Death (and life) dialgue. Another coment ...

Wealdstone Death Cafe Write up

Posted by GerryF on May 18, 2016, 4:27 a.m.

This was our very first Death Cafe in Wealdstone, organised to mark Dying Matters Awareness week.  8 local people attended(actually 9 if we include a "babe-in-arms"!) and none had been to a Death Cafe before. We started with the usual introduction and after that conversation flowed easily.  We talked about many death-related subjects:talking to children and parents about death, what dying might feel like, bereavement, leaving something in writing for those left behind, making the most of the "living years". Evaluations were very positive. It was described as "Interesting" "Inspiring""Thought-provoking""Sociable" "Relaxing" ""Affirming" "Rewarding" "Worthwhile""Enlightening". We are hoping to run this as a regular ...

Once again we had a really lovely Cafe..  Seventeen attended and there was a nice mix of ages and gender.  Some of the closing comments included: fascinating and inspiring people, wonderful conversations, exhilarating, and helpful to see how other people are planning.  Several people mentioned how much there is to talk about concerning death and that we are just scratching the surface. There seemed to be a hope that further conversations would lead to deeper topics.  As well, there was interest in having some nights dedicated to specific topics that would have both an information and discussion component.  These wouldn't be death cafes. I will get back ...

Death Cafe Linz, Austria - Mit dem Tod bei Kaffee und Kuchen Write up

Posted by Aileen on May 17, 2016, 12:45 p.m.
