About Dorothy Boswell:

After careers in education, journalism and parenting, I have been a volunteer encouraging people to talk about end of life issues in North London for several years. I have led Death Cafe groups at the Almeida theatre Cafe, the Welcome Trust and online as part of Age Uk's TFurutre AMtters programme in the London Borough of Islington.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

Death cafes are a place where everyone can start the conversation knowing they will be heard, sharing hopes, fears and stories and often a surprising amount of laughter.

Thoughts for sharing:

Death Cafes give people a place to talk about something that may be very difficult, if not impossible, elsewhere. Older people often say, 'My children won't discuss it - they say, 'Send me an email - I'm too busy', or 'It's too upsetting' or  'You're going to be around for years more.'"

Younger people say, 'When I try to talk to my parents about funerals they joke, 'Just put me out with the recycling,' and if I mention wills, it's 'What are you after?'"
