About Tawnya Musser:
Greetings! I am a Home Funeral Guide, certified Life-Cycle Celebrant® specializing in funeals, and an End-Of-Life Doula, (also known as a Death Doula.) I strive to foster more open conversations about death and dying in my community, and the world at large.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
I’ve found value in every Death Café I’ve attended in other cities. It is important to me to help bring Death Café into my own community, closer to home. I have followed the death positive movement for several years (see link for more information on death positivity.) Over those years, I’ve grown more and more passionate about advocating for families to know their rights, and to take the care of their loved ones back into their own hands, when they are willing and able. My family had a home funeral for my late brother, and it was so beautiful. What would you like your legacy to be?
Overall, I want people to remember me for giving a damn...because, I do. I care. I care about people, my community, how we live and how we die. It is imperative that we acknowledge and honor the very real, and very hard-at-times fact that death is inevitable. Giving that reality a voice allows us to live our lives to the fullest. In our death denying and death phobic culture, Death Cafes provide a welcome place for those of us who need a forum to have candid conversations. Regarding life (and death) Ram Dass said “We are all just walking each other home.”
