Hello,

I came to the cafe on July 10th and travelled from Glasgow. This was a really invigorating and friendly experience.  The hosts were sensitive and warm and the topics covered were varied - sometimes very funny and also very serious.  The location is ideal and the cakes, delicious.  Thank you very much.

We know that we will all have to face it one day, but we put that “difficult” conversation off until tomorrow. Or the day after… Well it doesn’t have to be that way.

The people we talk to on this podcast are people who do talk about it. They ...

Participant A:

"Last Sunday (June 30th) I attended my first Death Cafe, held at Frenchs Forrest.

The Death Cafe limits the number of people attending,  resulting in an atmosphere of intimacy of people’s feelings and what they desire to share.

On arrival I was greeted very warmly by the host April. The room itself was very inviting with a lovely variety of refreshments.

It is humbling to see that April can take 15 complete strangers with various backgrounds and creeds in regards to their relationships with death and make them feel safe so they can express how they feel and ask questions without judgement about a topic ...

10 of us gathered in a sunlit room at L'Arche Toronto's Gathering Place. Our youngest participant was 11, and we went up from there to 65. We were a good mix of ages, ethnic and religious backgrounds, socio-economic realities, work experience, physical and mental wellness.

We talked about choices, losses, griefs, direct experience and/or accompaniment of/during the death of loved ones, our own fears and preparation and struggle as we face death ourselves.

We spoke about the role memory plays in both the lead-up to death and beyond.

We talked about suicidal ideation and suicidal tragedy, from grade school up through elder adults.

We ...

I had actually attempted to delete this particular cafe but the owner of the shop still wanted me to hold something so i did not advertise it as a death cafe. She wanted me to specifaclly talk about paganism and death specifaclly and you guys say no on having a structure topic. I dont know if it was the air but people some people did not understand the idea of a general discussion. They thought they were coming to a grief group and I even had a guy get over emotional and hostile (almost had to ask him to leave the shop). We talked about what people blieved ...

Ten people met for the Cafe on a rainy Sunday afternoon but our spirits were happy and the conversation was lively, and respectful.  We discussed Near Death experiences, funerals vs celebrations of life, and the changing legal landscape of physician assisted end of life care.

Comments from writen evaluations include:  Three words the describe my experience:  "enlightening; a sense of community; and heartful sharing. The event went beyond my expectations."

Other comments: "I had a strong sense of community; it was thought provoking and grounding.  Thank you!"

"I want to prepare a to do list in more details so I can be ready as I age and die ...

For June’s Death Café Iowa we met at Palmers Deli & Market on Ingersoll. Becca Suvalsky (member of the Bereavement Professionals Group) facilitated the group. We had 8 people in attendance, 2 men and 6 women, and participants ranged in ages and professions.

Members brought several interesting topics to the group this month.

Several group members brought things to discuss such as an article that was published a number of years ago form the “End Well” conference in San Francisco. The article discussed using natural relaxants such cannabis and psilocybin mushrooms for those suffering. These drugs have been linked to dramatically helping those who are at the end ...

13 June 2019 Ten wonderfully diverse people met up on 13th June on a crisp cool Brisbane evening night... a mixture of ages, genders, interests and life experiences - which blended so well and left people enthused to continue talking about how death and dying are part of life; and how it has affected their lives. How we all need to talk about it. Plan proactively for it. And learn from it.

As always the topics were wide ranging and included discussions about unexpected and expected deaths and their profound impact upon our lives. Death when young... death when older. The impact of grief and loss not only for ...

This was a beautiful Hygge group with us two veteran cafers, and two other women who find themselves alone after the death of their spouses one by cancer and the other by cardiac arrest.

Our newcomer had been holding onto our newspaper article in her purse anticipating the event.

Sharing our experiences with the death stories of our loved ones was beautifully shared in this small group with everyone being heard and appreciated.

One of the take aways from this group is we will talk about our loss for as long as we need to with no judgement or guilt.

Our next meeting will be held July 13th ...
