Death Cafe Practitioners Page
Hi All.
I'm planning to offer a Death Cafe in April and am beginning to prepare.
Does anyone have already-prepared flyers or press releases that you would be willing to let others use?
Any other materials that people have found helpful in their own planning would be appreciated.
Thank you!
Jonathan
Hello!
Same question as someone posted a few days ago - may I go ahead and hold a Death Cafe? I have attended one before, in Oxford, as part of the Dying Matters Awareness Week, and have worked a Celebrant for two years.
I would like to hold one here in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, as part of a Planning Ahead Event to be held here.
Thanks
Pauline
Hi I've read all the marvellously worded advice, ethos and guidelines on here and I want to set up a death cafe. Can i just go ahead now? (I am already a qualified group therapy practitioner and a student psychotherapist - not that that's all necessaery:). I just don't want to go ahad and use the name without checking. Thanks

I'm excited to work on the Amsterdam Death Cafe, to be lauched somewhere in spring.
Please let me know if you know any people in the Amsterdam area that might be interested to join, and I'll get in contact with them right away.
Thanks!

We are holding our first death cafe here in Alamosa in south central Colorado. One of my hosts is wondering if not having a licensed counselor available, in case a need arises, could be a problem. Has anyone had the need for a counselor during a cafe?
Has anyone had experience with attendees wanting to talk about pet deaths? I had it come up at the last two Death Cafes.
Curious how many practitioners are passing out surveys after the events. If you are, are you tabulating your results? What have you learned from the surveys? If you have tabulated results, I would love to see them. It would be interesting to see how similar or different the events are perceived by region. (Granted, the host/environment has a lot to do with it too).
Regards,
Lizzy
Areas with no Death Cafes

Hi all,
I like to count where Death Cafes are and where they aren't. We have had Death Cafes in 34 states and D.C. Where there aren't Death Cafes is most of the south. Why do you suppose that is? I could not find any in TN, MS, LA, SC or AR. If you know of any in those areas that maybe didn't advertise here, let me know.

I am starting a Death Kansas in Lawrence, KS and seek other leaders tips, ideas and insight. I already have a location and plan to design a flyer as I do graphi design for my job. I'd love to hear from other leaders.

A funeral home offered me space for a Death Cafe. I've read write-ups for other Death Cafes held at funeral homes and I was wondering if anyone had run into any issues with hosting an event in that environment?
My biggest concern stems from problems that might occur if a funeral was taking place at the same time as the Death Cafe. I asked the funeral director about this, but I also wanted to see if anyone here had any advice.
Is there REALLY not any Death Cafe's in Phoenix, Mesa or Gilbert, AZ? Im looking to go to one before I host my own? Thank you for the info

I am re-reading the practioners guide and considering playing katie's video as the opening to our first death cafe on Long Island NY. I suppose I am writing to make it real, not just a concept. I promise to post the results sometime soon after tomorrow's event. Thanks Nancy
I am a Certified Celebrant, creating personal ceremonies for memorials and end of life / celebration of life events. I want to start a Death Cafe. However I have no medical training and would love to find someone like a hospice volunteer who might like to co-host. Ideas? I'm in the Rocklin, CA area and have a venue selected in Auburn so anyone in the Placer county area who would be interested. Or can you suggest how I could find such a person? Thank you~!
Clarification - themes and communities

In the Death Cafe guide (6.1) we actively discourage having themes for Death Cafes. A themed Death Cafe is a Death Cafe that is devoted to the discussion of a specific topic, such as funerals, grief or planning future care.
However we also say that "6.3 In general Death Cafes are open to, and respectful of, people of all communities and belief systems. However it is fine, and can be very good, to have Death Cafes for specific communities and belief systems. For example we have had a number of Death Cafes specifically for the LGBT community. In the same way it is possible to have ...
