Hi, I’m Aliyah and I am a social worker, therapist, and death doula passionate about making conversations about death, dying, and grief feel a little less scary and a lot more human. I believe everyone deserves compassionate, culturally responsive end-of-life care and a space where they can show up exactly as they are.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

I’m here because I believe death is a natural part of life that deserves to be talked about with the same openness as birth, love, or any other major life transition. So much of our fear comes from loss and change, and death embodies both, which can make it feel overwhelming. While death is inevitable, it doesn’t have to remain taboo. I’m looking forward to being part of conversations that foster curiosity, compassion, and connection, and that help us approach mortality with a little less fear and a little more understanding.

What would you like your legacy to be?

I hope my legacy is that I helped people feel seen, supported, and less alone during life’s most vulnerable moments. I want to be remembered as someone who made conversations about grief, death, and healing feel a little less frightening and a little more human. If I can help people live more intentionally by embracing the reality that life is finite, then I’ll know I made a meaningful difference.

Death is one of the few experiences that connects every human being, yet it’s one of the least talked about. I believe that by becoming more comfortable discussing death, we become more intentional about how we choose to live. Grief is simply love with nowhere to go, and every ending leaves behind a story worth honoring.
