About Fenyx's Death Cafe:
Hello, my name is Fenyx and I have a passion for researching funerary rites across many cultures and learning about the herbal allies used to assist the human transition process. I enjoy being able to hold space for the community to engage in conversations surrounding death and providing a safe space to seek support with others. I maintain a space safe for LGBQT+ and BIPOC folx and a haven for those with religious wounds to deconstruct their old conditioned views. Welcome all.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
In 2018, I experienced a near death event. To cope, I attempted to find grief support circles or places I could release my inner and most darkest emotions and feelings surrounding the loss I was navigating. I learned real quick there weren't many spaces that were alotted for such intense exchanges where I was living. When I moved to the PNW, I set out again to find a new space that allowed for a death-positive way of living life. I found the City of Roses death cafe and it was great! But after a while, driving to Portland became too much for me. I had begun to cultivate my relationship with the after life after my NDE on a deeper level with my ancestry and found my voice tapping into my roots. At the time, I couldn't find any death cafes in the little city of Salem so I stepped out of my comfort zone, shadowed death cafes, and then held one myself. After searching harder, I learned Salem already had its death cafes. Now there are more and it warms my tiny little goth heart that more and more spaces are opening up and the community feels safe to talk about the natural process of death. I am of service to the community as a humble steward of the liminal.
What would you like your legacy to be?
For the community to remember that when we die, the plants will be there to witness our transition into the after life. It is not the end but another step in the journey and we are not alone.
