About Jade Whaley:

Kia Ora, I’m Jade.

I’m an end-of-life doula, funeral celebrant, and coach based in Timaru, South Canterbury. I walk alongside people and their loved ones as they navigate the final chapter of life, offering calm, compassionate support that honours who they are and what matters most.

My role is to be a steady presence - someone who can listen, guide, and gently hold space for the emotional, spiritual, and practical realities of death and dying. The care I offer is non-medical and deeply personal, tailored to your needs and delivered when you need it.

Over the years, I’ve sat with both grief and joy. I’ve seen how love and loss are deeply intertwined, shaping our lives, our beliefs, and the way we face endings.

These experiences have drawn me to this path of service, helping others navigate times of transition with greater ease, understanding, and connection.

Whether I’m supporting someone who is dying, holding space for their whānau, or creating a ceremony to honour a life, I always return to the same truth: we are here to be present, to love, and to feel held in our most vulnerable moments.

It all begins with a conversation

With care,

Jade Whaley

What brings you to Death Cafe?

Death and dying are significant and inevitable parts of life. By thinking and talking about them, understanding how you feel and what you believe can provide you with a different perspective on your own life. Talking about death does not bring it closer; rather, it is about planning for life.

Being part of the Death Cafe offers us the opportunity to do this in a supportive environment.

What would you like your legacy to be?

My goal is to make a positive impact on the way people perceive and connect with life and death. Life is about living well, but that is not always easy. That's why I am here to help.

My purpose is to assist others on their journey in a down-to-earth, honest, compassionate, and empowering manner.

Thoughts for sharing:

My thoughts and reflections:

Death is a natural part of life, not the opposite of life but rather a part of it. Instead of fearing death, we should aim to create something meaningful that will outlast our physical bodies.

In embracing death, we can understand and appreciate the fragility of life and cherish each moment we have with our loved ones.

Death reminds us not to waste time but to express our love for each other now. It is a challenge that encourages us to live fully and maximise our time.

As we approach death, we can shed our physical bodies like a butterfly shedding its cocoon and transition to a higher state of consciousness, where we can continue to grow, understand, and perceive. In this way, death is not the end but merely a transition to a new beginning.
