About this Death Cafe

Our Timaru Death Cafe is a group-directed conversation about death and dying over a cuppa and cake.

Death and dying is a significant and inevitable part of life. By thinking and talking about it, understanding how you feel and what you believe can give you a different aspect of your own life. Talking about death doesn't bring death closer. It's about planning for life.

Being part of the Timaru Death Cafe allows us to do that in a supportive environment. We will talk about all sorts of interesting death-related things.

We don't promote any particular conclusion, belief system or course of action.

NB. Death Cafe is not grief support. It may not suit people who are recently bereaved or who are actively grieving.

  • WHAT TO BRING

No experience necessary. Bring an open mind and a willingness to join in the conversation. Donations gratefully accepted toward costs. Please register your seat via email, through website link or ring/text Jade on 027 251 9300

About Jade Whaley

Throughout my journey in life, I have heard the voices and seen the faces of grief. Not just in others but within myself. I am grateful I have witnessed and experienced absolute joy and love. Both aspects are a part of life, both a part of being human.

I believe life is about being present, feeling connected, being loved and loving others. When exploring aspects of life and death, we get a better sense of ourselves.

I decided to pursue a practice to assist others. I am a funeral celebrant, funeral director, coach and mentor based in Timaru, South Canterbury. I am currently training as a Death Doula.
