Death Cafe profile for Catherine Shovlin

Location: United Kingdom

About Catherine Shovlin:

I trained as an End of Life doula with Living Well Dying Well and have worked in Skanda Vale Hospice as well as Syrian refugee camps. I also work with trauma release techniques, colour psychology and am training as a zen yoga instructor.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

My journey in my End of Life doula training showed me that the closer I got to the concept of death, the more I understood my life. I feel this is a critical moment and one we should own and experience in our own way, not as an outsourced medical / legal event.

What would you like your legacy to be?

A greater number of people reclaiming death and feeling able to discuss it frankly and compassionately, without being thought morbid or depressing.

Thoughts for sharing:

To the man [person] who is afraid, everything rustles” Sophocles
