There were new faces at the cafe tonight, especially since we had to suddenly move our location! This time we discussed lost ones passed and advanced planning, taking the opportunity to complete Advanced Directive and both medical and financial power of attorney forms. Skully was delighted to assist and help make their passing more structured when they need it most!

We enjoyed a cornucopia of cake and cookies along with tea before our meeting last night. Scott facilitated and David and Ellen leant their insights. The group was very knowledgeable and engaged in our discussion of death and dying. With such a deep understanding in the attendees, we were able to explore each topic in detail. Each person shared their personal experiences with death and how they felt during and after the dying process. We had a person who is learning the academic side of death. Other people came from backgrounds in chaplaincy and mental health. They shared years of growth and development as they experienced death and ...

Death Cafe write up: Portland, OR Thursday Evening Death Cafe

Posted by nomenoyou1 on Dec. 13, 2025, 10:33 a.m.

Nine people attended this monthly Thursday evening Cafe at the Peace House in Northeast Portland. For several people this was their first Death Cafe. We discussed many tender topics including fear of death and love of life, living with a terminal diagnosis, living with grief and loss. Grief for an imperfect family member who caused us pain is especially challenging. The importance of gratitude as a daily life guide was discussed. Several people expressed gratitude for having an open space to discuss their concerns, hopes and fears. Chocolate cake, vanilla cake and gluten free cookies with tea were enjoyed, and the leftovers left for the Peace House community.

Death Cafe write up: Mostviertel Death Cafe

Posted by Sabineschreiner on Nov. 30, 2025, 1:53 p.m.

Today I hosted my first Death Cafe, at my dining table in my beautiful, cozy home in the countryside.

We were 5 people, 2 friends of mine and a son with his mother from my area.

It went well, I would say, the concept of Death Cafe being totally new to all of them.

My cake had turned out really tasty, it was the first Sunday of Advent and we had an hour and a half of open conversation.

Two people are actually affected of a close relative being very sick in the hospital, the story behind it really touched the rest of us.

We also talked about ...

Death Café report

Bell House

20th November 2026

It was a really fantastic turnout and a lovely atmosphere and we split into three tables to accommodate everyone and ensure all could have their say.

One group moderated by Melissa was a seemingly undiverse collection of white women and one man aged between 40 - 85, but each had different thoughts, styles and approaches. They discussed themes of legacy and control over death. They discussed funeral wishes and how these match up with what actually takes place. Talking about grief and how it feels to lose someone. About assisted dying and suicide.

Towards the end Melissa felt the atmosphere ...

I thought we would discuss our time before death. Once we are not alive anymore the rest does not matter to the dead person any longer

Time to think, reflect and hear other peoples views

Hoidays missing some who will not be present this year. And talked how to make the most of our day to day life and especially make the most in our relationships.
