Another excellent Death Cafe with newcomers to join in the conversation. We have been so encouraged by the various ages and stages of folks attending the death cafes and it has been awesome. One different aspect of this cafe was quite a good discussion regarding spirits and other experiences. Very fascinating for those who were sharing their experience and equally interesting for those who had not had such experiences. We also talked of near death experiences and what that was like for those who had that experience or learned of it from another person. Discussions around new ways of caring for our dead people which are actually the ...

As the years have rolled on by, Life has got tougher. The fight that was once there has faded, It abruptly disappeared a few years ago, surfaced recently and is fading once more.
I have tried to kill myself before and want to die but want to die through the use of nembutal or any other "peaceful" means.
This has been with me from such a young age and I am just tired of life ...

For December’s Death Café Iowa we met at Palmers Deli & Market on Ingersoll. Buffy Peters and Becca Suvalsky (members of the Bereavement Professionals Group) facilitated the group. We had four people in attendance, 3 women and 1 man, and participants ranged in ages and professions. Members brought several interesting topics to the group this month. We had a really good conversation at this month’s Death Café.
One group member brought an article that discussed the history of death certificates. This lead to a really interesting conversation about birth and death certificates. We also discussed the importance of having a death certificate and what it is used ...

Particularly poignant as the group met on Remembrance Day! We were a group of 10 from different back grounds and life experiences.
Topics discussed included debate over the value of social media platforms to announce death or pay tribute to those who have died. We discussed why people find it hard to share thoughts about death and the taboo nature of dying and illness.
We noted how important it is to speak with children honestly about death and bereavement and the support groups available for this.
We also spoke about the cost of funerals and funeral insurance policy. For those without one, there is a risk that family ...

The students did a fantastic job of presenting their topics. We had several faculty and staff from campus come and comment on how well the students knew their material and were able to communicate what they know. I didn't get a count of how many came, but we had a really good crowd during the two hours we held the cafe.
The exciting news, though, is that a reporter from SDPB contacted us and did a piece on the cafe. She was impressed as well, and was very complimentary of the Death Cafe model.
Here is the link to the article and radio piece: https://www.sdpb ...

I am pleased that tonight's Death Cafe in Rutland VT was a success. Everyone spoke and shared. We laughed and also were quiet. Advanced Directives were discussed, as well as various types of burials. I am looking forward to next month!
“Downward Gaze" is based on a contemplation of death. Contemplation is a form of meditation where the focus is placed on one's thoughts on a specific topic, thus promoting greater insight into that topic. A common and challenging contemplation is: “What is the nature of death?" The insight gained from this contemplation reveals the impermanence of life, therefore, provides a sense of urgency to live as fully as possible in the present moment.

We were fortunate to be able to use Tusk Baltic again for our second Death Cafe in Liverpool. This was again advertised through Facebook and through the growing contact list of people who have previously shown an interest or attended/booked a ticket through Eventbrite. There were sixteen participants, and again we had a number who initially had booked, that did not come along.
Jamie Fearn was the facilitator, and brings her experience of bereavement counselling, volunteering for Samaritans and non-religious pastoral support work to the role. This was our second in Liverpool partnering Tusk Baltic ...

In a cosy wooden cabin at the welcoming Abbey Physic Community Garden, with a plentiful supply of tea, delicious homemade vegan cake and an unexpected abundance of snacks, a group a strangers gathered and talked about death and dying. It was the first Faversham Death Café.
Some people had been to a Death Cafe before, some people knew what they wanted to talk about, some people weren’t sure what had brought them along and some people just wanted to listen.
