How rich to share on Death amongst familiars, friends and many new faces in the sacred space of openess and beauty Sukhasiddhi Foundation provided.

Hard to fathom the many perspectives and thoughtful personal shares took place in the course of ONLY 2 hours - deep medicine.

Some skeletons came out of the closet and comfortably danced together for a bit, gaining some footing into the mystery by sharing something of what has been experienced of death so far, every ear open to one another, learning more, what moves are possible and how it might be ... heart emoticon

When it was over, I felt most of us wanting to continue ...

Tucson Death Cafe Write up

Posted by tucsondeathcafe on Feb. 4, 2016, 11:39 a.m.

Tucson’s Death Café February edition was super sweet! We had the magic number of 17 attendees and many new faces. Among them were two women who traveled from Tempe/Phoenix, a pair of Minnesota snowbirds hoping to start Death Cafe in their hometown, and someone working to bring Death Café to the local deaf community. Subjects that came up for discussion were: “How do we talk about death to our family and friends?” “What is the status of new cultural movements such as home funerals, green burials, and aid-in-dying?” “What is relief grief? Is it a common experience and “okay” to feel relieved – for any reason – such ...

Death Cafe-London Ontario Write up

Posted by shancalv on Feb. 1, 2016, 9:11 p.m.

A group of 21 people gathered in my home January 11th.  After the initial opening information and instructions we broke into 5 groups in various locations.  After about 40 minutes of conversations we took a break and then reformed into new groups for a second conversation. We gathered as a large group in the end to say a few words about our experiences.  The feedback was very positive.  Everyone present wants to come again. Because I had to turn people away I will find a public location that will hold a larger group next time.

We were 8 people from various areas and it was so wonderful that after introductions, tea and cake was served, conversation took over without lapses. We shared books and information.  It was a very congenial time. We started as strangers and left as good neighbors. We have the next date for our Death Cafe, February 26, 2016, 7-9 pm.

Death Cafe Grants Pass Write up

Posted by grantspass on Jan. 24, 2016, 7:52 p.m.

Seventeen people came together to talk about their own interests related to death.  One person said, "I had no idea what I would hear or say, ahead of time.  It was great to just talk."  Subjects discussed ranged from the practical aspects of advanced directives, etc. to what happens after death, to how to change our society's somber attitude toward death to more of a celebration or honoring of life.  Often, there were outbursts of laughter, as one person noted, "I had no idea talking about death could be such fun!"  Comments were also heard about the linen tablecloths, "fine china teacups" and "awesome cupcakes."  Please join ...

Death Cafe in Whitstable Write up

Eleven people joined Julie and Sue at the Umbrella Centre in Whitstable on Saturday 23rd January. Conversations were personal, humbling and inspiring.

We also spoke of the festival of 'the Day of the Dead,' could this come to Whitstable? Communications from those who have died, how best to talk to friends and family who have life threatening illnesses, soul midwifery and discussions around taking control of our dying.

We talked a lot, drank tea and coffee and ate cake, there was lots of laughing too. Sue and Julie

Death Cafe Linz, Austria - Mit dem Tod bei Kaffee und Kuchen Write up

Posted by Aileen on Jan. 21, 2016, 4:40 a.m.

In a wide ranging discussion a number of issues were explored including:

Advanced arrangements made before someone has died. Works well but some people feel it is actually tempting fate to even discuss such matters.

The role and legal status of a common law wife was discussed Many myths still exist re the rights or otherwise in such a partnership and the legal benefits of marriage

Metal reclamation [from joint replacement and other repairs] and how this works Practice may vary crematorium to crematorium but in future DNA records may become a feature to be considered.

Length of time to make funeral arrangements also discussed Takes longer than ...

The Lewisham Death Cafe Write up

Posted by LewishamDeathCafe on Jan. 14, 2016, 1:34 p.m.

The Seventh meeting of Lewisham Death Cafe was held last Saturday, 7th May at Rushey Green Costa [opposite the PEACOCKS dress-shop]
There were only three of us this time. It was a blazingly hot day and my guess is that many people were on holiday following the previous Bank Holidaay weekend.
But, as many of you will have discovered, a small number of attendees can be in some ways an advantage. People can speak at greater length about what is on their mind, without worrying that they are excluding others at the same time.
Our next session is on Saturday 4th June  from 2:00 to ...

Highcliffe Death Cafe Write up

Posted by Lis Horwich on Jan. 14, 2016, 6:03 a.m.

Highcliffe Death Cafe had first meeting Monday evening. One new member came along, two others had hope to join us, but looking forward to welcome them at later meetings. We were a small group, but had some very interesting chats. One member had just lost her Mum before Christmas and could tell us her about her beautiful passing, just the way her Mother had hoped for at the age of 88. It was uplifting to hear about the passing of a close relative, when the death was expected and plans were in order. Sadness is still felt, but the funeral can be hosted as a real celebration for ...
