About Ann Hyland:
I am an INELDA trained End of Life Doula and death literacy guide experienced in facilitating Death Cafes.
I am also a part of the EOL Doula team at Cancer Support Sonoma.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
I'm drawn to end-of-life doula work and Death Cafe because I believe some of our most meaningful moments happen in the conversations we usually avoid — about death, dying, and grief. There's something transformative about sitting in that space together: fear turns into connection, isolation into understanding.
As Picasso once said, "The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away." As an INELDA-trained doula and Death Cafe facilitator, I've found my gift in holding space for authentic dialogue — the kind that honors both our fragility and our resilience.
What would you like your legacy to be?
If there's a legacy I hope to leave, it's this: that people felt less alone with me — that hard things became speakable, not avoided. I want to be remembered for showing up quietly and consistently, and for bringing enough humor into even the heaviest rooms that fear had a little less room to take hold.
Thoughts for sharing:
What if we talked about death the way we talk about birth—as something natural, something we can plan for, something we can surround with love and support?
