About Emily Barney:
Hello friends. I serve my neighbors, community, and fellow humans as a Birth, Postpartum, and Death Doula in Reno, NV. In my roles, I also educate, consult, speak, and advocate for accessible, human-centered beginning and end-of-life care.
My approach is grounded in the principles of trauma-informed care, social justice, ecology, spirituality, and pure intrinsic passion.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
I feel that the Death Cafe format is SO needed for people to explore and deepen their relationship with mortality. There is a peace and freedom that accepting death into our lives can bring, and I am very grateful to offer this opportunity for my community.
What would you like your legacy to be?
I hope that my legacy is my love. The way I made people feel when they shared parts of their life with me. Being present with people, caring genuinely about their story and their struggles, and helping them feel a little less alone.
Thoughts for sharing:
I believe that care during life’s most profound transitions should honor autonomy, dignity, and the innate wisdom that already lives within each of us.
I approach end of life work as an initiation into conscious reflection, legacy, and presence to the preciousness of human life.
