The launch of Death Café at the Open Center New York City was well received. Ralph White, a founder of the Open Center and initiator of this location, joined in our conversation. With ten participants in total, we divided into two tables where we shared conversations on loss of loved ones, life after death, our own deaths and how we want to die.
The café at the Open Center can hold a maximum of fifteen and we can see that, in a short period of time, we will be moving to a larger space within the center. The Open Center of New York City is another great addition ...

Six of us joined together at Panera Bread in White Plains, NY for interesting conversations around death and life.
We were joined by a journalist from The Journal News, the daily paper for Rockland and Westchester Counties. After the write up, I received two inquiries from adjoining county residents wanting to start a Death Café in their community. We are growing! Here's the link to the article http://lohud.us/18lavQW

Death Café New York City started off with soft jazz and carpeting, as 35 attendees entered the brightly lit basement of an IHOP (International House of Pancakes) in the West Village. The demographics (based on evaluations from 21 out of 35) showed a nice 50/50 split between males and females as well as a 50/50 split between the Under- and Over 50 set, with an additional attendee falling somewhere between 18-24 and another at 85+.
Faith/religion/beliefs included: Agnostic, Humanist, Atheist, Open-Minded, Jewish, Spiritual, Catholic, Buddhist, Interfaith, including a follower of Baruch Spinoza, the philosopher.
