About Deathcafe Essen:

Holy Grief Art | Why not elevate grief to art with pride and dignity?

Holy Grief Art offers sensitive and creative grief counseling for teenagers and young adults aged 18 to 32. As a non-profit and voluntary offering within the framework of a Junge Trauer Essen, it enables participants to express and process their grief through art. The question "Can grief be considered art?" is central to this discussion, as creative forms of expression such as painting, music, or writing serve as valuable tools for healing and dealing with loss and pain. In the grief group, participants find not only support but also space to share their feelings in a safe, respectful environment.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

Death Cafe Essen | A lively space for conversations about death, grief, and life.

With this guiding principle, we aim to create a group-supported exchange about death, grief, and life without any agenda, goals, or fixed topics. The Death Cafe is more of an open conversation group than a grief support or counseling session.

The Death Cafe in Essen is not exclusively a grief cafe. Rather, it seeks to bridge the gap between grief work and other societal connections, serving as a public platform for lively exchange.

What would you like your legacy to be?

At Holy Grief Art, we often think about the legacy we want to leave behind. It's not just about what we create or the spaces we hold, but also how we touch the hearts of those we accompany in their grief. Our legacy is meant to be one of compassion, creativity, and healing—helping others understand, express, and process their grief through the power of art.

We want to create a safe and open space where people can express their grief without fear of judgment. We want to show that it's okay to feel pain and that grief is not a weakness, but a shared experience that connects us. Through art, we believe people can find new ways to understand their emotions and ultimately heal.

Our wish is that the legacy of Holy Grief Art as a Junge Trauer Essen is one of hope, comfort, and empowerment. We want to show those who walk this path with us that grief is not the end, but the beginning of a new chapter of growth, creativity, and connection with self and others.
