Hi! My name is Lisa, I am a Death Doula or End of Life Midwife (whatever terminology suits best) and Consultant in the Hawkesbury area NSW Australia. I provide non medical supports to people in navigating the inevitable....
whether that be from a planning perspective, terminal diagnosis, a wish to die at home and family supports, end of life celebrations, walking with grief and loss, things a little left of centre or unusual, spiritual and ritual and conversations around death and dying.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
I believe our Australian culture is temporarily lost when it comes to having conversations around death and the dying process. We have also lost the ability to holdspace for those having lost their person, pet or relationship even without judgement or opinion. My aim is non judgemental community connection for people in a positive way that brings normalcy to conversations around dying, death, grief and loss. To know it's not weird or odd to discuss this place we will all arrive to at some point in our lives and to encourage families to really "talk" about this in life.
What would you like your legacy to be?
I would like my legacy to be guiding people to live fully and well - to not be afraid of talking with their loved ones about death and dying wishes - to bring good grief, rather than regretful grief.
We get but one life, one chance to share our inner thoughts, fears, wants and needs as we near end of life OR if we were to be incapacitated through accident. Let's use this one precious life wisely.
