About Alexis Eve:
I'm passionate about raising awareness for the Death Cafe movement and creating spaces for open conversations about death and dying. My training at Seward Area Hospice in Alaska provided valuable experience in end-of-life care, equipping me to offer compassionate support to those navigating this stage of life. I'm excited to continue exploring these important topics through genuine and open-minded dialogue. :)
What brings you to Death Cafe?
I was raised on Long Island where sports played a huge role in my life. Basketball, in particular, was one of my first loves. I earned a Division II women’s basketball scholarship and became the first in my Puerto Rican family to graduate with a bachelor's degree. It was during my last semester, in 2014, that my life changed unexpectedly; My brother passed away, suddenly, from an asthma attack. His death forced me to rethink everything—my plans, my goals, and my understanding of life and death. While helping to plan his funeral, I realized how unprepared and unsupported we were as a family. It made me wish I had talked to my brother about his thoughts on death and his wishes for his end of life, which might have made that difficult time more manageable. This experience shifted my focus. I decided not to pursue a career as an athletic director. Instead, I began exploring the death care industry, which resonated deeply with me and gave me a growing sense of purpose throughout my eclectic career journey. So, this is what led me to host a Death Café. The ultimate goal is to demystify death in a gentle, inviting, and open-minded environment. I truly look forward to sharing this meaningful dialogue with all of you. It took 10 years but I'm excited and deeply grateful for the opportunity to host a monthly Death Café (every third Sunday) at the Brookville Multifaith Campus at 11:30 AM. Thank you! Stay curious, -Alexis Eve
