About Lauren Bear:
Hi. I'm Lauren. I currently work in hospice; I also have experience teaching meditation and I enjoy teaching arts and crafts classes too. I'm not a fan of small talk, but getting into the big topics, the hard topics, is how I prefer to connect.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
I've had evolving views around death. I think that the topic can be a big, vague, scary monster to people in our culture that avoids all thoughts of our inevitable end. I want to disrupt that and create spaces where people can come together to demystify death and dying. I would love to live in a world where we treat our elders with respect, and kindess, and approach death with clarity. I think this would help more people have good deaths.
What would you like your legacy to be?
That's a question I'm still contemplating.
Thoughts for sharing:
For me, the approach of death is not a time for more treatments, more tubes, and more clinicians. It's a reminder to create meaningful moments with the people you love. Then leaving this journey in the most peaceful way possible. To me, that's a good death.
