About Janet Balboa:
In my work as an artist, I explore the transformative power of creativity and surrender in facing life's deepest challenges. I use my work to process and honor my experiences of loss and grief. These personal journeys inform my ability to hold space for others with compassion and understanding.
We are all touched by loss, and like me, I bet you've put off getting in touch with those deep rolling waves of sadness and grief. I've journeyed here often as I've gotten older and am ready to heal and regain my life in the present, incorporating my shadows as well as my light.
I find community to be a catalyst for healing, sharing and restoring my soul. I welcome you to a community that will attend to you with care and compassion.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
What brings me to host a Death Cafe? A deep sense of alignment with my life's work- facilitating healing and transformation through meaningful conversations and unconditional support.
Encouraged by a friend's suggestion, I feel called to create another space where people can explore and speak openly about death, a topic that has profoundly shaped my own journey.
I'm honored to offer this opening for connection, reflection and shared understanding.
What would you like your legacy to be?
I hope my legacy is one of kindness, compassion and openness - living authentically and inspiring others to find their own radiant, joyful selves.
My wish is to show, by example, that we can embrace life's sorrows and joys with courage and grace, finding transformation in the process.
Thoughts for sharing:
Grief is not something to be fixed; it's something to be carried, transformed, and honored.
I believe that by facing death and loss openly, we give ourselves permission to live more fully, finding meaning and connection even in the hardest moments.
As Rumi said, 'Don't grieve. Anything you lose comes round in another form.'
For me this was initially very hard to hear, harder yet to feel...loss is so overwhelming of my senses at times. But as time passes, the truth of this has become my experience.
I could not have seen, realized or begun to live this without the help and understanding of those around me.
I need community. I believe to heal we must share both our greatest joys and deepest sorrows with each other.
