About Ashling:
Passionate about normalizing conversation surrounding death. I have been hosting death cafe in Squamish for 8 years now. And every single time the conversation is different!
I have lived through multiple close to me. Deaths, including a stillborn baby, which brought me to the passion around talking about dying and death. Our society is obsessed with youth because we are so afraid of death.
I currently work as the youth services coordinator at foundry seat sky and fully enjoy my life living out here in the mountains. I really love to jump in water all times of year. I often ask myself if I die today. Will I regret not jumping in this lake? The answer is always YES, and then I jump!
What brings you to Death Cafe?
Normalizing conversation around death, especially so that if somebody has experienced the death of a loved one, their friends know what to say instead of "I'm so sorry for your loss."
Also, the importance of being prepared for your death because it's going to happen. I think it's the most loving thing that you can do is prepare for your death. So your family doesn't have to grieve you and make decisions about what to do with your body and what kind of service you want, etc.
What would you like your legacy to be?
I would like people to remember me as a free spirit that had the confidence to walk as my true self in the world.
Thoughts for sharing:
Jump in the lake because one day you will be dead and not be able to!

Trickster's Hideout is amazing and opens especially just for us to have this event. I usually get a cake from XOCO chocolate in Squamish!
