About Marti Steger:
I am a Death Doula and member of the Colorado End-of-Life Collaborative. I also do Energetic Healing work. I am what feels like a rare Colorado Native. I remember when Linger was a mortuary and am a 2nd general La Chugas fan!
What brings you to Death Cafe?
During my mom's hospice journey, I thought I knew what to expect and how to navigate talking about death with my family. It was during this time I realized just how hard we all worked to avoid talking about death, even though it was right in front of us. After my mom passed, I became a Death Doula and leaned into the Death Positive movement. Participating in a Death Café is an excellent opportunity to discuss everything that gets avoided. I hope that my community has the chance to get familiar and comfortable with talking about death. That way, when the time comes (and it will come for all of us), we'll have had a chance to practice, and it will be a little easier. It is an honor to hold space with other like-minded folx and welcome those who don't even know what they are looking for but feel called to come and explore.
What would you like your legacy to be?
I would like my legacy to be I cared even when it was hard. I leaned in even when I was unsure. I asked "how can I support you?" more than I asked "what will this do for me." I hope my legacy is that I brought my personal gold to share with others even when I doubted I had any.
