About Allison Zerr:
I am a mom, a Realtor and a hospice volunteer and boardmember with a passion for promoting hospice and healthy conversations about life and death. I recently obtained a Master's Certificate in Thanatology and am an active member of ADEC.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
I learned about Death Cafe during my studies. I attended one hosted by my local hospice and decided to take on the project of promoting Death Cafe so it is a regular gathering of community members not associated with hospice or healthcare.
What would you like your legacy to be?
To have provided service to my community to ease the pain, frustration, heartbreak and familial animosity by educating others on advanced care directives, living wills, having healthy conversations with loved ones about your wishes upon your death and encouraging living life to the fullest.
Thoughts for sharing:
Elizabeth Kubler-Ross' book "On Death and Dying" has been widely misused and misunderstood. It is interviews with dying patients and their stages of grief, not for the bereaved.
Grief is a very individualized experience.
