Twenty folks showed up the other nite at the public library to hang and out talk like you do at book club, but this time there was no book. They said they wanted to talk about death with their adult children but their adult children shut them down. They said their loved one's suffered from fear and lack of information as they lay dying and these folks want something different for themselves; they said they want only to have reality acknowledged and the freedom to freely discuss what's in their hearts. They wanted to talk about NOT suffering; about the likelyhood of an afterlife; about ...

Twenty happy folks (19 guests, 1 facilitator/host) met in our local library, introduced oursleves as we went around the circle  and dove into anything but small talk! After intros we broke into two groups of 10 and had at it for a good 1.5 hours. It wasn't until the library staff began lingering around the door that we realized we'd gone over our alotted time, eagerly taking and giving ideas, memories, and observations. At the conclusion, I found a majority of the group is inteterested in going forth with more DC's AND with a few topic-lead gatherings (for which I'll have to ...

Hosting my first Death Cafe was terrific. Being a 74 degree Sunday afternoon in June with weddings and graduations happening all around us, I was amazed at the attendance.

I gave the Death Cafe intro., made it clear there was no agenda or conclusion to be promoted, and that business interests should be left at the door, and then we intro'd ourselves. We discussed 4 primary topics: What do  you think is on the other side of death, what is the  fear of death actually about, talking  about death with the loved ones as they were dying, and then lastly we talked about our family of origin ...

Wowzzza! The  area's first ever Death Cafe was terrific. Being a 74 degree Sunday afternoon, I was amazed to have 7 folks attend, none of whom knowing exactly what to expect. We had such a meaningful chat that as I  drew the afternoon to a close I asked if  anyone was interested in meeting again in July and every one said yes. Date TBD as I have to commune w/ the shop owner about details.

In attendance was a retired physician who'd buried her husband of many years, a married couple (he'd buried his first wife) a gal who'd buried her sister when the ...
