Another excellent Death Cafe with newcomers to join in the conversation. We have been so encouraged by the various ages and stages of folks attending the death cafes and it has been awesome. One different aspect of this cafe was quite a good discussion regarding spirits and other experiences. Very fascinating for those who were sharing their experience and equally interesting for those who had not had such experiences. We also talked of near death experiences and what that was like for those who had that experience or learned of it from another person. Discussions around new ways of caring for our dead people which are actually the ...

The Deloraine and Area Palliative Care committee hosted this event in the beautiful new curling rink and community hall complex. It was the perfect venue and the evening was a great success by all accounts. Those in attendance said that they were so pleased to have a safe space to come and talk openly about a topic that we tend to avoid. The committee members provided fabulous snacks and beverages which is always so nice and helps to keep things "real". Almost all of the participants said they would encourage others to attend a death cafe given the opportunity and used words such as calming, helpful, and interesting ...

Spring Break was happening and so was an important local hockey play off game but there were still 15 people who came out to our first Death Cafe of 2019. As per our previous events the hosts at Gopher Creek provided delicious food and drink for purchase and I for one enjoyed every bite of the chocolate cake-yummy! Just as most cafes the first 30 seconds were quiet and then lively discussion ensued. The topics were varied and interesting and some of the repeat attendees expressed that it was really interesting to see the contrast in each cafe-all good just different topics and perspectives. It always feels good ...

We held our last Death Cafe for this year in the spot where we held our first one just about 2 months ago at Gopher Creek Coffee Company. The atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable complimented with delicious treats and beverages. There were 16 people including 4 men which was awesome. Small group discussions were followed by larger group discussions/sharing/questions.
The evaluations have been very positive and encourages us moving forward. People want to have a venue to talk and listen openly about death and dying. It has been described as enlightening, relaxing, uplifting, and interesting. We will take a break for the holiday season but are ...

On an evening with hoar frost and fog in the air 20 people gathered for the first ever Elkhorn Death Cafe. Our host venue the Elkhorn Creamee had prepared some delicious lemon pie and carrot cake to enjoy alongside great conversation and a cuppa.
People from the area had heard of these cafes and were curious so we had a great turn out of various ages and stages. It was great! Everyone has been talking about how much they have appreciated the event and the opportunity to come together and just talk.....and listen! We will be doing more DC in the area in the new year and ...

The back room of the Dennis County Cafe was the location of the first ever death cafe in Reston Manitoba. This is a small prairie town and like our other cafes most people who attend know each other. This is just the way it is in small places and in some ways it makes it very comfortable and just like a trip to the coffee shop...except this time we talk about death. We had good small group discussions and followed up with larger group discussions and sharing. We enjoyed and appreciated the hospitality from the folks at Dennis County and the Skor cake literally was "to die ...

We had an evening of firsts! First time hosting and the first time such an event has happened in our small prairie town. We had a lovely Death Cafe with 20 participants. The Gopher Creek Coffee Company supplied the space, beverages and cake. The venue was excellent and just the right size for this group although others were interested space was limited. The evening was described as "relaxing", "fulfilling" , and "interesting". Everyone in attendance left saying that they want to come to another death cafe again! The small groups of 4 touched on many topics but the large group discussion used to wrap up the session was particularly ...
