About Jonathan Stein:

I'm a holistic psychotherapist and life coach.  I have a passion for "leaning into" the darkness including uncomfortable feelings relating to grief, loss, sadness, and death...in short, the realms that culturally (Western culture specifically) tends to shy away from.

It is part of my personal mission to support others in re-discovering a deep sense of wholeness in themselves and interconnectedness with All.

I believe that by trusting and being willing to drop into the dark, uncomfortable feelings, we can experience greater joy, meaning and sense of purpose in life.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

Mainly because death is such an important and overlooked part of life, especially in American culture.

But the acuity of my awareness of this fact was awakened by my growing understanding of the implications of climate change, peak oil, resource depletion, and over population.

As one who aspires to have a positive impact on the lives of others, now and future generations, and also who recognizes the direness of our current planetary situation, I have done a lot of soul searching to "get to" what it is that I feel will make the biggest difference at this point.

Helping others to come courageously closer to their mortality is just one of the ways I'm choosing to do this.  My hope is that the Death Cafe might provide an ideal entryway for people desiring to live more fully, presently, boldly, and joyfully.

What would you like your legacy to be?

I would like to be remembered as a man who lived passionately, courageously and with integrity, but also as one who cared deeply for all living beings, including the Earth.

I would like to be remembered as one who helped people arrive closer to the knowing of themselves as One with the Creation that they exist within, namely Nature and ultimately the Universe.

Mostly, I would like to be remembered as a guide, encouraging others on the journey toward knowing what it means to be Whole.

I made this event a potluck which was a great idea (I must say!).  People brought yummy snacks and it cut down on the work and expense on my part.  People were really into it.

A total of 19 people showed for this one, some returners, some new.  Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves tremendously.

the next one is scheduled for March 7, 2015 from 1:30-3:30 PM.  We hope to see you there!

Practitioners question: Death Cafe Prep Materials

Posted by Jonathan Stein on March 1, 2014, 11:31 a.m. 1 comment

Hi All.

I'm planning to offer a Death Cafe in April and am beginning to prepare.

Does anyone have already-prepared flyers or press releases that you would be willing to let others use?

Any other materials that people have found helpful in their own planning would be appreciated.

Thank ...
