Death Cafe Practitioners Page
Last November I was very happy to be able to hold the first Death Cafe in Linz, Austria, in a very comfortable space provided by the Kepler Salon.
The practice at Kepler Salon is that all events there are free of charge and accessible to everyone, and one important point of accessibility is language. For this reason, all of my announcements and write-ups are in German, and during the Death Cafe I endeavor to make sure that everyone can follow the conversations well.
I can write in both English and German, but unfortunately usually only one at a time. Is it sufficient to submit all the information on this site in German, or should I attempt to add some information in English as well?
On October 18 we hosted our very first Death Cafe in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada. Being the first one we did not know what to expect so we were prepared with lots of questions we could pose if no one wanted to talk. When we began we introduced ourselves and I began the session by sharing some of death euphimisms and that got the ball rolling. We had 12 people attend and they all were there because they had an interest in talking about death. Our two hours flew by. The coffee and treats were amazing and the attendees were very forthcoming in sharing their experiences and questions. We truly believe that our community is ready for these conversations so we've decided to hold another one on November 29 then begin again in the New year with the hopes of running Death Cafes bi-monthly. This was something I have wanted to do for a long time now and I'm so excited that it has become a reality!!
Good luck to anyone about to facilitate their first one and to those who continue with Death Cafe, kudos to you as it is needed.
I'm wondering if anyone has held Death Cafes for certain sectors such as Health Care workers? I believe they need somewhere to debrief and that a public Death Cafe may not be the ideal situation for them and I would like to explore this more. Any thoughts?
Thank you for reading.

I have been to four different DCs (Bedford, Hitchin, Greenwich and Suurbiton) and been inspired to run one in Lewisham, London on 7th November (see picture)
I have already got the local press (South London Press) very interested, but can you advise me about whom else I should tell about it. I have tried Dying Matters but they in my experience are very difficult to contact. Do you have a list of suggestions of those it might be useful to talk to?
For example, local Funeral Directors, beeavement counsellors, social services or Citizen's Advice Bureax. At one DC (I think it was Bedford) we had some front-of-house ...
Hi all,
I'm the Death Cafe host in Vienna, Austria, and am currently on the job hunt. I'm wondering if I can mention my involvement with Death Cafe in my CV. Have any of you been doing that, and if so, how did you put it?
Thanks for your advice.
Judith
Hello,
I've now got a date for the Death Cafe in Cambridge - 26th November, 7-9. I want to make a simple poster to advertise this and am wondering whether I can use the line drawing of the teacup with a skull on it and if so where I can get it? Also what font do you use for the main Death Cafe logo?
Thank you
best wishes
Penny
We had our 1st Death Cafe & planning our 2nd, great turnout of 14 people. However, 4 of those people left an hr into it, which cause a uncohesive flow & disrupted conversation. Two said they could not stay because of an appointment & the other 2 - used this as the opportunity to leave (which I find happens when one persom leaves). How can this be prevented or at least limited? Has this ever happened to you? Can we say please try to commit to the entire 2 hours of the Cafe? Please help & thank you ~ Gail aka Neith
Hello, I'm an organizer with PEERS: Portland Entheogenic Exploration and Research Society.
We have monthly meetings and I'd like one to be a Death Cafe open to the public, but I'm hoping to find an experienced facilitator to lead it.
Thanks
I am new to Death Cafes and am wondering if there are ever cafes run in Cambridge, (Cambridgeshire, UK)? If not, is there anyone else out there who would be interested in getting one together?

Hello to you all, how lovely to be able to join such a wonderful group.
We had our first meeting last night for our proposed Death Cafe in Southend on Sea.
We are very blessed to have a beautiful venue, The Temple Cafe which as the name implies is a Buddhist Temple (suitable for quiet space and reflection) with cafe attached (food for the soul).
We thought it would be a good idea to launch this next month to tie in (loosely.. 3rd of November difficult) with the forthcoming Mexican Day of the Dead, and as an introduction perhaps create some 'skull and butterfly' cookies for folk to take away.
There are 6 of us should we start the session with a bit about our background just to break the ice.. and because when you are first meeting new people perhaps a board with pictures and about who we are for future meets. How do you begin your Cafes... Do you begin with storytelling... ?
I know that this is and opportunity for about talking about death, but is it acceptable to also offer other things ... I note that we are not meant to invite guest speakers, and that it shouldnt be too prescriptive. Several of us are therapists who volunteer at the hospital (reiki/metamorphic/ hand massage)...for cancer patients... is this ok... because sometimes folk don't want to open up in front of other people to start with... but when they feel relaxed they feel more able.. It has been a positive thing for the support group .. we could do it for a donation or is this a definite NO NO.. Just want to get it right from the outset.
Your lovely input would be so appreciated.. and thoughts too.
Your guidance would be really appreciated
Hello fellow Death Cafe enthusiasts. I have been following you for about three years and have finally found 2 wonderful people in my community to host and sponsor our very first Death Cafe in Woodstock, Ontario Canada. I am looking for a facilitator that wouldn't mind being our mentor until we get our feet wet. If anyone reading this is interested please email me at bruder9262@rogers.com
Many thanks...

Interested to know if anyone hss incorporated this into their Death Cafe discussion.
Thanks, Paige Lewis
I would like to ask those who have held groups at a funeral home or cemetery, how did that work for you?
I would ideally work with an untraditional funeral home. However, a traditional funeral home would also be educational for my group.

Hi, Just planning to hold a death cafe in a Retirement village (which does have a cafe) and wondered if anyone else has done this? How did it go? The other suggestion I might follow up on is to hold one at a secondary school. Anyone done this? Would really love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks, Karen
Hi,
I am looking for British women who have benefitted from the death cafe experience to feature in a national women's magazine article.
For example people who have suffered a bereavement and people who may be suffering from a terminal illness that have found a new perspective on death and dying.
Feel free to contact me by email on kate.delamere@bauer.co.uk.
I very much look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
We hold one meeting a month at 7pm on the last Thursday of each month in the Quaker Meeting House in Thirsk. We also have a meeting at 9:15 am in Cafe Nero on the first Tuesday. Our Death Cafe meetings started last November and our attendance is between 9 and 15.
How does this compare with yours?
