About this Death Cafe
A Death Café offers a creative way to explore how death can inform and inspire the way we live. As a rapidly growing movement, you will find a Death Café happening somewhere in the world almost every single week.
At Death Café Saskatoon, we believe that talking about death only enhances our current state of being. The purpose of Death Café is to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives. This will be an opportunity to join other members of the community and immerse yourself in what we know will be a fulfilling evening filled with thought provoking conversation.
Your hosts, Lisa Greig & Karla Combres will be creating a comfort in a conversation that has been long avoided. We invite you to join us for tea, coffee, sweets and of course, conversation. Reflections on the last community Death Cafe (November 2017) can be found here.
This is a free event, however tickets must be reserved through the Eventbrite link below. Should you not be able to attend this event, please consider giving your ticket away to a friend instead of cancelling.

As a social worker, I have experience in both acute care settings as well as in the community as a Bereavement Counsellor. I am extremely passionate about the field of death, dying and bereavement. Death, is life’s one certainty. It is painful. It is dynamic. It is filled with sorrow but also opportunities for growth. As a social worker, I am rooted in the practice of leaning into the discomforts; the topic of death is one of those discomforts. It is my hope that the Death Cafe will provide an opportunity within the community to have an open, honest discussion that will quickly evolve into a place of comfort, awareness and growth towards a culture that is no longer death-avoidant.

I am passionate about building community and nurturing real connection. As a Life-Cycle Celebrant and multilingual ceremony officiant, I create and perform meaningful ceremonies to help people honour and celebrate their life’s big moments – the joyful beginnings, the difficult endings, and everything in between (www.karlacombres.com). I support those at the end of life by volunteering with hospice and co-directing the Saskatoon Threshold Singers, which offers the comforting gift of simple a cappella singing at the bedsides of the seriously ill and dying. As a regular Death Café host, I love exploring with others matters of death and dying as a window to life and living.
