About this Death Cafe
We believe conversations about death deserve a place in everyday life. In Puerto Rico, gathering over coffee, sharing stories, and remembering those who have died have long been part of how our communities experience loss and connection.
Through this Death Café, we hope to create a welcoming space where strangers can come together, share their perspectives, and simply be present with one another.
For this gathering, participants are welcome to bring a memento of a loved one who has died, whether a photograph, letter, piece of jewelry, or another meaningful object. Bringing or sharing a memento is entirely optional. The conversation will remain participant-led, without a predetermined agenda or expected conclusions.
This is not a grief support group, counseling session, or educational presentation. It is an opportunity for open, respectful, and confidential conversations about death and dying.
The event is free, with voluntary donations welcome. Coffee, tea, and light refreshments will be provided.
We are grateful to Fuzzforo in Río Piedras for providing a space for this gathering.
About Entre la Vida y la Muerte & Hasta la Raíz
This Death Café is organized by Hasta la Raíz DFV, led by an end-of-life doula passionate about supporting grief circles and Death Cafés. Her love for literature, art therapy, origami, coffee, and cats brings creativity, warmth, and a personal touch to the spaces she creates.
Joining her is Keishla Collazo, founder of Entre la Vida y la Muerte, an end-of-life and abortion doula, and a doctoral student in Naturopathic Medicine. Her work centers on compassionate presence, grief, and creating safe spaces for conversations about death, dying, and suicide. She is especially interested in art therapy, somatic approaches, and the importance of simply being present with others through life's most vulnerable experiences.
