About this Death Cafe
Simply put, we are running a Death Cafe because there is so much need for safe spaces where people can talk about death!
One of us has just finished her training as a death doula and the other is about to embark upon this training, so death is also where our professional attention is turning to. People need to work on their relationship to death and talking about it is the first step.
About Christiana and Kendia
Kendia:
I would describe myself as a death walker. From a young age, death has been a significant part of my life. I grew fascinated by it, and was always deeply inquisitive. I could never understand why most adults found it so difficult to talk openly about death with. This early curiosity has stayed with me, and shaped my understanding.
I hope my legacy is that of a quiet companion - someone who walks alongside others to the threshold of transformation, offering beauty, safety, openness, ease, and wisdom along the delicate thread between this breath and the silence that may follow. I wish to help people feel truly in control of their final choices, making informed decisions and following through with their wishes, even in the face of cultural or external pressure.
Christiana:
I have always been comfortable with death. Pushing boundaries around what is socially acceptable and what is not around the matter. As a social anthropologist, funerary rites fascinated me, to an almost fetish-level degree. Five years ago, (before even knowing about death doulas), I decided I wanted to plan what would happen to my body after death. I was very disappointed to learn that in Cyprus, the options are very limited. So my quest begun when I realised there is so much space for pushing the boundaries even further.
I want to help change the way people relate to death and hence the way they relate to life. To create the safe space and love that is so needed in this world for healing to ground. I want for people to have all the information and options they need and to make informed soul-based decisions when it comes to their death. Without any pressure or external influences.
