About this Death Cafe

I’m a common woman trying to speak openly about an important phase of life that is often hidden because of fear. I moved to Ireland 15 years ago, and since then I have questioned many things about identity, belonging, life, and death. I’m also a trauma therapist, and I see life as a puzzle where each experience reveals another piece along the journey. For me, the final piece of that puzzle is death.

Sometimes I wonder what it will mean to die here, far from my country of origin. Will my family accept my decision to stay here? I’m someone who reflects deeply on life, and death is one of the questions that stays with me.

About Élida Sousa

I facilitate community engagement professionally and enjoy creating spaces where people can connect through honest and meaningful conversations. Originally from Brazil and living in Ireland for the past 15 years, I have worked to foster inclusion and connection between the Brazilian and Irish communities. I am an independent researcher in death and dying, a Family Constellations facilitator, and a psychotherapy student. I'm passionate about creating spaces where we can explore death with curiosity, openness, and compassion, recognising that these conversations often help us appreciate life more deeply.
