About this Death Cafe
Join us for a unique opportunity to gather together in-person and contemplate our mortality.
This gathering is not meant to function as a traditional “support group,” provide therapy, or processing of experiences more suited for one-on-one counseling. It is rather a space to consider what you believe, witness, and uncover your truth. Emily holds a trauma-informed container for this event, and gently guides participants through different conversation topics each month.
Conversations occur in pairs, rotating to different partners with each new topic. Participants are exposed to multiple points of view and lived experiences that offer reflection, perspective, and empathy for all the ways mortality has the power to connect and heal us.
This space welcomes our LGBTQIA+ neighbors.
About Emily Barney
Emily is a Death, Birth & Postpartum Doula serving her community in Northern Nevada.
She has come to find this work through many personal "identity deaths" throughout her life, and holds the belief that there are everyday deaths and rebirths that come to shape who we are.
Connecting to ourselves, our inner wisdom, and our fellow humans has immense power to heal us individually and collectively.
At a time in human history when we are so divided and isolated, Emily's personal mission is to create opportunities for people to connect around our shared humanity. Call her crazy, but she believes this has the power to change the world!
