About this Death Cafe
AS I have joined the prison service, I have discovered that there is no population more in need of an open forum to discuss grief and death than prisoners. On almost every metric, prisoners face the most disruption to life's journey and are unable to grieve, unable to take part in ceremony, unable to plan for themselves what a good death might look like for them, let alone a good life. I am very pleased to be able to bring this format to this underrepresented group.
About Candy Penfold
Staff Nurse within the prison service Candy has been running community death cafes in Medway for several years, particuarly during the pandemic where she held them online over zoom. In conjunction with the Brown Bread Collective and Living Well Dying Well/End of Life Doula UK, Candy has been serving her Kent, UK population with opportunities to openly discuss and confront topics around grief and death. This will be the first time she is hosting a death cafe in prison.
