About this Death Cafe

The FBC Indy Death Cafe will allow us space to bring whatever topics are on our hearts and minds related to death and dying into conversation and exploration with others around tables (of course, with refreshments). If you'd like to join in the conversation, please register at the link provided!

The "Death Cafe" is an international movement that brings people together for intentional conversation about death-related topics in an invitational and accessible way. There are no agendas, objectives, themes, or speakers. The purpose of the movement is simply to "increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives" (see deathcafe.com).

About First Baptist Church of Indianapolis

First Baptist Church of Indianapolis is an almost two hundred year old congregation located on the northside of Indianapolis. In recent years, the congregation has grown increasingly diverse, welcoming people who have come to Indianapolis as refugees from both southeast Asia and Africa. With a strong historical commitment to service and outreach, First Baptist Church is active in the surrounding community, working with local partners to improve the lives of all our neighbors.

Rev. Dr. Cody Sanders is an ordained Baptist pastor and the current Associate Professor of Congregational & Community Care Leadership at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN. Rev. Sanders is the author of Corpse Care: Ethics for Tending the Dead. He has facilitated Death Cafes in a number of communities, including the first Death Cafe in Davis, California. Rev. Sanders has also helped numerous seminary students bring this conversational style about death to myriad congregations across the country.
