About this Death Cafe
Hello, Kia Ora, and welcome.
Join us for a thoughtful discussion about the end of life and share your experiences, thoughts, and fears about death and dying. Our group-directed conversation is in a safe environment.
Death and dying are significant and inevitable parts of life. By thinking and talking about them, we can understand our beliefs and feelings and gain a different perspective on our lives. Talking about death does not bring it closer; instead, it is about planning for life.
Being a part of the South Canterbury Death Cafe allows us to do this in a supportive environment where we can discuss all sorts of interesting death-related topics.
We do not promote any particular conclusion, belief system or course of action.
Please note that Death Cafe is not intended to provide grief support and may not be suitable for recently bereaved or actively grieving.
About Jade Whaley ~ Celebrant + EOL Doula
Throughout my journey in life, I have heard the voices and seen the faces of grief, not just in others but within myself. I am grateful to have witnessed and experienced absolute joy and love. Both aspects are a part of life, and both are a part of being human.
In my opinion, life is about being present, feeling connected, and giving and receiving love. By exploring aspects of life and death, we better understand ourselves.
As a funeral celebrant, life coach and mentor based in Timaru, South Canterbury, I have decided to pursue a practice that assists others, helping them transition through a change in life, love and loss.
I have assisted families as a funeral celebrant since 2017, am a qualified life coach, celebrant and have been trained in grief support, death and dying. I have also had the experience of working as a funeral director. I have on-going professional development. In 2023, to add to my tool belt, I have trained as a Death Doula which is a beautiful experience.
Ngā mihi nui,
