About this Death Cafe

After experiencing more than our fair share of bereavements in recent years, Helen and I now love creating compassionate spaces that enable people to talk openly about death and all of the issues surrounding it.

We firmly believe that lifting the taboos around death by talking is enriching, enlightening and ultimately empowering. It can on occasion even be entertaining!

Durham City Death Cafe is a very friendly & informal small-scale event, hosted in a beautiful coffee shop known for its super coffee, cakes and good craic!

(Refreshments are available to purchase throughout the evening.)

A warm welcome awaits, and we look forward to meeting you at our gathering of open hearts and minds...

Besides being  a pair of creative, quirky and very canny lasses, we're also a professional funeral celebrant (Annette) and Funeral Director (Helen) based in County Durham.

We share a passion for creating opportunities to discuss and ponder life, death and afterlife issues in a safe, friendly and confidential space.

In our professional work, we embrace an authentic, holistic, creative & compassionate approach to ceremonies, and encourage families to be as involved as they wish.
