A write up of Death Cafe Red Bluff

By ovaccenter

I have been attending meetings at the Death Cafe here in Red Bluff for several months now. When I first heard about the idea of a group of people getting together to talk about death, I must confess, I was not sure anyone would be interested. I could not imagine more than one meeting, but we are still going strong after several months. Most of the original group is still attending and our hostess provides leadership and every month she surprises us with the most wonderfully delicious dessert. Our discussions range from what kind of burial we might want or do we want to be cremated, to the question of whether our deceased loved ones can communicate with us. There have been some tears, but mostly we laugh and find companionship in our mutual losses. The fact that we all will face the eventual death of our bodies is a given in our group, however, we all agree that we want to live a good life until the end.  ---CMS, RB, CA

I am 68 years old, and the closest brush I had with death was heart attack, and six way bypass. They urged me to fill out Advanced Directives. No, I am not ready to "die." But what is death? I attended grief group at St. Eliz, Was good.
