Write up for March 4th Tucson Death Cafe

Tuesday night, March 4th, we 'marched forth' and marked the 548th Death Cafe in the world and 18th for Tucson.

Participation continues to grow at the new midtown location at Big Moe's coffee shop. 34 people attended. Frequent participants, Susan and Steven, were guest facilitators. Kristine and Cindy got the night off, sort of, and had the opportunity to relax into discussion. After reminding everyone that any kind of participation is optional, folks had the opportunity to introduce themselves before breaking into small groups. Susan and Steven had both recently experienced the deaths of pets and had prepared some questions around death of animal companions, if that topic was of interest to anyone.

People self-selected into small groups and were encouraged to get up and move to another group if they felt done with where they were. Steven joined several small group discussions and noted that the deaths of animal companions was relevant for many and spurred conversation. The passing of our pets allow us another way to experience the cycles of life. Susan noticed that, as she moved around to check in with groups as a facilitator she was more of a listener and watcher than talker and discussion varied widely. The whole group got together again for about the last 15 minutes for final sharing of thoughts. It is touching to hear the insights that come up for people through the experience of Death Cafe.
