Leuven Death Cafe - June 2026
A write up of Leuven Death Cafe
This was the first time we hosted a Death Cafe in Leuven. I collaborated with the International House of Leuven and could use their cosy salon space for free. A colleague who hosts an English speaking Grief Group attended as co-facilitator. We were able to communicate on the flyer and to the grief group that this event was different from the grief support group. There were four attendees plus us two facilitators, so 6 people. The conversation flowed really well during the session. There were comparisons of how funeral rituals work in Belgium, the Netherlands, India, and Ukraine. There was also discussion of living forever, knowing your death date and choosing a last meal. The participants filled in the feedback form and were postiive across the board. They commented on how important it is to to talk about death and described the event with the following words: soothing, interesting, communal/community, cathartic, connection, tasty, serene and safe.
Thank you for creating the Death Cafe format. We'll be continuing in Leuven.
