Knowledgeable group
A write up of Portland, OR Thursday Evening Death Cafe
By nomenoyou1
We enjoyed a cornucopia of cake and cookies along with tea before our meeting last night. Scott facilitated and David and Ellen leant their insights. The group was very knowledgeable and engaged in our discussion of death and dying. With such a deep understanding in the attendees, we were able to explore each topic in detail. Each person shared their personal experiences with death and how they felt during and after the dying process. We had a person who is learning the academic side of death. Other people came from backgrounds in chaplaincy and mental health. They shared years of growth and development as they experienced death and loss in their professional life and personal life. We discussed engaging family in end-of-life discussions. There was also interest in preplanning a good death. People shared their experience completing advanced directives, and we reviewed the use and completion of the Oregon POLST. It felt like a kind and intellectual group seeking to advance their knowledge while helping others.
